I've noticed fishing with the live target frog hasnt been the greatest lately. A friend i go with has been using a brush hog and has been killing it. Any suggestions or answers to why this could be?

Make up your mind, already! Laughing

I'm a frog fanatic, and I really prefer soft frogs. It's either the action or the silhouette the fish see. I can't justify all that $10 paint on the top of a surface bait.

BTW, sorry, yourboyt. I couldn't resist giving you some crap about the contradiction in two of your first posts. Wink

I bought a Koppers LIVETARGET (Hollow Body) Frog and tried it out over the weeds during my last trip to Stub Pond. It didn't have the paddle foot action that I'm used to from using soft plastic frogs like Zoom Horny Toads, which are my favorite. Unfortunately, I lost the LIVETARGET Frog to a shrub on the other side of the pond before I even got a hit on it. I've bought another, but haven't taken it out of the package, yet, so I really haven't formed an opinion about it. I'm glad to hear that you've had some success with it, though. I'll give it a try, soon. Very Happy

This thread made me Laughing

I have a couple of the live target frogs and really haven't giving them a fair shot yet. I have been having more luck with fishing unweighted senkos over pads.

I am a firm believer in their crank baits. It's mostly the only type of crank baits I use . Love the deep diving craw cranks.

I have had some luck with the Trophy Scum Frogs in the past (which are similar to the Livetarget frogs). Recently, I have started using the soft plastic frogs with paddle feet more because the fish seem to really like the action.

The best frog I have used is the Jackall Iobee frog. The detail is great but I really dont think the fish pay too much attention. What I like about it is its shape, along with the softness of the plastic make hook sets a lot easier. I have definitely noticed a difference in # of fish boated.

I have a Spro and KVD Strike King as well. The Spro takes on water. Have to try to fix it with some silicone. The KVD;s paint comes off if you rub it. Really sub par in that department. I dont care if the frog is all white. Just wish theyd use better paint or not paint it at all.

They all work. Some may not want to pay $13 for a frog but I dont mind the cost because I love frogs, use them a lot and almost never lose them. So $13 could easily last me all season.

I picked a Koppers live frog up early in the year and have yet to use it
$4.50

With so many places being weeded up I should though.
The only thing is most of these places have thick MATS that I rather not drag a fish through especially a dink with 5lbs of weeds on it.

If you arnt losing them left and right then $13 for a working lure can be justified especially if it out performs / last longer then those cheaper

If you think about it senkos cost what 6 - 8 bux a pack and depending on how much fishing you do / how much fish you catch, you can easily go through a couple packs in a few weeks.....

Scum Frog Trophy Series 5/8oz is all you need. If you run your thumb over the back of the frog with just the weight of you thumb and your thumb doesn't get snagged by the hooks then your frog is to stiff. I had a black Bronzeye which I lost to a stupid pickerel that was just as soft as the Scum Frog and I rarely missed a fish unless the lillypads got in the way. No frog comes close to the Scum Frog.

Ive been using Zoom horny toads, Powerbait frogs, and Rage toads. I might go and buy a live target frog instead of a rapala next time i go out since they are basically the same price. But i wouldnt dare cast a 13$ frog out with my 6lb line. Id have to use my crappy baitcaster with 12lb on it and then id feel safe. How long are your pauses with the frog? I pause for like 5 seconds because the frogs i use sink too fast to have a longer pause.

My favorite two frogs to use are the Stanley Ribbit and Zoom Horny Toad. They seem like they are the most realistic and have the best action of any that I have used.

not a huge fan of the live target frog, try the new booyah frogs, they work well and are tough too, and the price is very reasonable at 2 for 9$ at Dick's Smile
