Jeff and I headed to Barn Island early this morning before the rains and found a nice school of bunker - we managed to snag 6. We tried fishing around fishers island for some stripers but the water temp was a bit too cold at 48 degrees.

Next we towed to the Baldwin Bridge ramp and fish around Great Island. Not too much activity there, so we headed up to Hamburg Cove. We managed to catch several large catfish on the bunker chunk Shocked - for some reason, stripers were not interested in the bait. I caught a nice 34 incher on a home made lure I call the Striper Glider which is a large 6 inch lure that weighs 3 oz and walks the dog underwater effortlessly. Notice the nice paint job on my lure - my daughter Jessica did it using a sharpie!

The rain picked up so we called it quits around 2pm. A slow day, but still we got a keeper!

Check out the boat launch at Barn Island...don't know why we were the only boat in the parking lot! Maybe we'll try Barn again in a few weeks.

Nothing Better than catching fish on a lure you make and your daughter painted it up with a sharpie, It was a good day if a fish like that makes it's way into the boat. DEP was at the CT River boat launch under 95. He asked us a couple of questions about what we caught and that was it. We told him we were inspected 2 weeks earlier and he said have a nice day. Hats off to the CT DEP understanding wet soggy fisherman who want to go home. Thanks

Nice fish!!!! I've caught an "S" load of striper already this year. I liked it better when the water was down.

The fish was released since it was probably a spawning female. I didn't get a weight, but was possibly 18lb.

How can you tell the male from the female, the size of the belly?
