PTOs point that a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch for everyone is my biggest problem with fishermen who trespass or fish in posted areas. There are so many places to legally fish in Connecticut that I can't understand why they feel it's necessary.
In the end, however, I recognize that people have the right to make their own choices in life. Besides myself, I'm the boss of only two people, my kids, and even that'll end when each of them reaches 18 years of age.
To the self-righteous: You're not the boss of me, so back off.
To the trespassers: Please don't ruin it for everyone else. |
Couldnt have said it better really. If anyone here wants to try telling us they have never broken or bent the rules of any law I to would call you a liar.
As for the self-righteous(cough cough seadog) Time to step of your high horse bud. |

OK, I will work on setting up a C&R, barbless-hook-only tank for your indoor angling needs. I'm not sure how you intend to keep the flake on the hook. _________________ Kira

I can sum this thread up pretty quickly. I'm seeing two distinct differences in fishermen here. The ocean fisherman are hell bent against fishing these areas and the bass fisherman are more lienant.
The reason is because when it comes to ocean fishing you will have 50 boats in the same area fishing the same bait. Drop it down to the bottom, crank it up a few feet off the bottom and wait.
The bass fisherman are used to the skills and common games you need to play to manipulate the fish. We're used to having to go to great lengths at times to locate big fish and fishing a traverse area or posted area gives you an advantage.
Do we let it get the better of us some times and fish these areas in hopes to catch that pig? ABSOLOUTELY. To be quite honest for me it's just flat out more convienant. If I get out of work late which I usually do and only have an hour to fish I don't care where it is. I am feining to fish and i'm going to do so. Does this have boundaries? ABSOLOUTELY. As many people have already stated because they feel the same exact way I do. We don't fish people's personal properties and invade on their space we fish golf courses, ponds, or resevoirs ( not being used for water consumption ) in discrete areas that many people never even knew we were there.
I have nothing against ocean fisherman at all I just think we are on two different wavelengths. Age also needs to be taken into account. It's far less imaginable that a 55+ year old man/woman would trek through the woods to get to a normally untouchable body of water in hopes to catch a fish.
This is a young person vrs old person thread as it's clear the 35+ year olds are thinking different than the under 35 crowd. I think when i'm older i'll probably have the same feeling you do. But then i'll remember back to how many thousands of fish I caught and won't regret a thing
I know this is going to be a controversial post but until facts start getting spit it will never end. |

Hi,
Well Ryan ....I hear your points,.... But they aren't really relevent or the heart of the issue we have argued about, ......and age has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it!
Here are 2 quotes from a very much beloved American over 102 years ago that still ring with the "Truth", ..... today as when he wrote them
[Quote]
Honor (synonymous with Honesty and Trustworthyness) is a harder Master than the law.
It cannot compromise for less than 100 cents on the dollar and its debts never outlaw.
Honor knows no statue of limitations
[Un-quote]
[Quote]
Human Beings, feel dishonor,... sometimes..., when they most deserve it !
[Un-quote]
Samuel Clemens (aka. MARK TWAIN)
Best regards,

For once Seadog i agree with you. This has nothing to do with age. Nor do i beleieve it has anything to do with freshwater vs. saltwater. It boils down to each individual and what they percieve to be illegal or bending the rules. or what not. I say to each there own. You worry about you and Hoppy will worry about hoppy. I dont need people telling me what i should or shouldnt be doing at my age. I will make the decision be it wrong, right or indifferant. All anyone has to do is worry about themselves. If everyone just did that then this thread wouldnt be 8 pages long. |

And that ryan is perfectly cool with me! I dont expect everyone or anyone to agree with me and thats where im trying to make my point. Kira only needs to worry about kira, hoppy only needs to worry about hoppy, and ryan only needs to worry about ryan. You do whats good for you and ill do the same. In all honesty i dont give a rats ass whos is poaching, tresspassing on private property, or doing whatever. I worry about me. I try to abide by the law, if some choose to not well, thats ok because its not MY problem aslong as it doesnt effect me directly then I have no need to get involved. If everyone did this this thread wouldnt exsist and we wouldnt be talking about it. To me age is really only a number. That being said Im going to be 35 soon(dam i guess that makes me old now) and id be a liar if I sat here and said I havent once or twice snuck onto a golf course at night for alittle bass fishing when i was younger. Does that make me a poacher? Well maybe in the eyes of some but going back to what im trying to say........does it really even matter what anyone else thinks? Hey we had a blast doing it! At 35(and old) I dont need to sneek around anymore. I have figured out over time that asking usually produces the same results and thats I get to fish!. I guess that came with old age? LOL |
