I wish there were no rules either, but rules are rules. My parents own a place upstate. Right across the street from them is a pond that is connected Blackwell brook. There are signs up thier whole street saying no fishing, or tresspassing. I do wonder how much of the brook is thiers, but have no doubt the pond is thiers. They have been know to drive up and down the street just waiting for anyone to try to fish it so they can call the police. |

Wow!!, I don't always agree with SD on his opinions, but I do this time. Without rules or laws would be anarchy, so learn to live with it, or move away. Plain and simple and stop being idiots. If it doesn't belong to you you don't have a right to it. |

Anytime. Making a mistake is one thing, but ignoring laws, and violating people's property is not mykind of fishing. |

Since we've already beaten this dead horse. How about we beat its brother?
Why can't we fish 99% of the reservoirs in CT?
I know of one close by that was never opened to the public until a few years ago (Crescent Lake in Southington) when it opened up, it was C&R and let me tell you it was a great place to fish. Since then, they have changed the rules and regulations there numerous times and I'm not exactly sure what they are now but when I go there its like its a swimming pool with some sunfish in it The bucket people sucked it dry as soon as it changed from C&R
I know someone who used to fish at Crescent with me who now fishes almost exclusively at other reservoirs where it is illegal and he hauls in really nice fish.
Example fish from Reservoir X:
He asks me to go with him and I'm tempted when I see what he's catching but I will never go because it is illegal...
I just don't understand why it is illegal??? In the middle of the woods, doing no harm, just fishing and that's illegal??? _________________ Never give up! |

I dont see the problem if youre not keeping any of the fish and being responsible (picking up after yourself, respecting the property) I fish plenty of private ponds because they have the best fishing but never do I do anything stupid on them. I even ran into the owner of the property once and he said I could never tell you were here and lets me fish it now, i usually ask for permission first but there are some that are so remote its impossible. _________________ Top 5 Favorite lures: Boo-yah Boo jig, Zoom Horny Toad, Rapala Husky Jerk, Berkley Power Worm, Senkos |

Hi slim,
I hear you!
Why don't they open up resevoirs to fishing?
Simple -. Like anything else, we humans will screw it up and pollute pristine water supplies.and as has been well recorded our fresh water supplies on this planet keep dwindelling.
Like many other New England states, Connecticut had the foresight to take measures to protect fresh water resevoirs from human impact and to preserve fresh water supplies as clean as possible for human consumption.
Belive me I'd love to fish waters that haven't ever been fished before -> But this isn't Canada with tens of thousands of lakes, so we need to protect what limited water we have as our human population continues to grow and demand rises.

Exactly my point, this is what I do, apparently it makes me not a sportsman, somehow I went from a C&R fisherman to a poacher overnight and I was unaware of it, guess I should turn myself in to the DEP. Haters gon' hate. . . |

It's not a matter of ethics with me. I always pick up my trash and other peoples I find. I do all catch and release. I would never fish in somebody's backyard or anywhere that seemed to intrude. But there are some places that are supposedly "private" that aren't actually private.
I'm starting to notice the same invididuals critique people's posts here and feel only their opinions and ethics are up to par. I fish to relax. I also came to this forum to relax |

Hi Ryan,
It is all about ethics
You proved that by stating you pick up your trash as well as others....that's ethics
Not intruding on others backyards ...that's ethics.
Catch and release.....that's ethics of a personal choice.
So your statment that it's not a matter of ethics is False, because you do have ethics that you seem to abide by.
Now as far as places you say aren't actually private -> "Are You Absolutely Sure"
Did you do any checking to make sure your not crossing private property or fishing private waters
Did you do everything possible to get the needed permission
Can you give absolutely positive answers to the above questions?
Keep in mind -> not all property (with or without waters) is posted -> Still intruding on to property not posted is illegal
The whole point of this issue is -> Are you actting in a responsible ethical sportsmanship manner with respect towards others property - posted or not!
Oh! FYI -> If you (or anyone) came to this forum, or any forum for that matter to relax -> Your fooling yourself!
Any forum is there to bring up a miriad of issues that people have, will ask about, and want answers to.....That's why it's called a forum -> to inform as well as critigue
And when people disagree on certain issues -> that's their right to do so and to find out others opinions as well as to find out any and all facts that pertain to their disagreement!
Best regards,

To add. . .FWIW. .I DO NOT litter, I take out all my garbage and leave areas the same, if not, better than what I found, I C&R only as I am only into the sport of it, and as I said like 10 times already I DO NOT walk thru someones yard or near their yard to gain access, so IDK why SeaDog is jumping all over me like I am unsportsmanlike. . . |

Hi,
Never acused or said you did walked thru anyones yard.
The issue is... Are you accessing thru any private property (could be just woods posted or not posted) to fish private waters without permission.
That is what we are talking about and it is illegale to do so without permission.
That intrusion act (without permission) alone turns you from sportsman into poacher per the written law! -> NO Ifs, Ands, or Buts about that hard fact!
Simple problem to correct -> Get Permission or Don't Do It
How hard is that to understand!

Hi all,
OK! After a number of PM's between CT_BASSman and myself, it turns out that CT_BASSman happen to make a post that lead to the misleading conclusion that he was intruding across private property to fish private waters.
This was not the case other than his error in wording his post.
So,....All is well
Oh! We also found out that we have many similar interests.
Definitely have to buy this fellow a drink!
