Well finally got our boat into the water yesterday at Silver Lake. 4 boats and a hand full of yaks and canoes as well were already on the water when we got there. Action was really slow, wife got the skunk, and I only got 1 nice pickerel about 18-20" and about a 1 pound largy. Other than that, nothing. But it was freakin nice out there anyways. Next weekend, who knows where we'll end up, but not too big a fan of Silver Lake at this point.

Lots of weeds and the water isn't that great. If you are near that area try Besek Lake in Middlefield. It's been a little slow there but there's potential. I mostly use topwater at Silver for action.

Cool, thanks Steve. Yeah we tried a few different topwaters, as well as every color and size soft plastics in our arsenal, spinnerbaits, and shallow cranks. We pretty much covered the whole place in the 4+ hours we were there. We changed our minds from Bantam to Silver Lake at the last minute instead, big mistake I think. But it was sweet to finally get our rig in the water, hasn't run in a month and ran like a top. We were pumped for sure. Beseck it is next time we're in the area.
Thought of that to.

I'd pick Bantam over Silver every time.

I hear ya Phil, we were pretty bummed out by the end result, we're taking our little boat (we call him Little Murph) out on our lake this weekend, then it's Bantam. Hey DD, it was an awesome day in the sun for sure. There won't be many more like it this year.

In the Bass Boat ... Silver Lake would be pretty low on my list of lakes to hit up in CT... I only go there to ice fish and I usually catch more pickerel than anything so its not even high on my list of places to ice fish

High on the list, Top 5 Lakes I'd put a bass boat in if I had one -> Candy, Bantam, Pachaug, Highland, Lilly

I would probably spend a ton of time on the CT River though as well.

But I don't have a bass boat so you might be better off asking some other guys on the site what they think...

I have a Bass Boat and I have been to Highland, Besek, Winchester, Bantam, Silver, Rainbow Res, CT River, Gardner, Bashan, and Crystal this year.

Depending on what you are trying to catch...my top 3 would be..

1) Bantam (LMB, Pike, Smallies)
2) Highland (Tons of Trout and Bass)
3) Bashan (Bass!)

I just recently went to Bashan and the only reason I put it in top 3 is because the fish were nice size...I still havent been to Candy and I am not sure if I can find the time...scratch that I need to find time!

Were you flipping the pads and weeds? That's what I'd do there or, at least, try to do there. Wink

That's where DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) and I found fish in Hamburg Cove. I've been having a lot of fun throwing big spinnerbaits lately.

Funny, those are the 3 lakes we're looking to hit before sealing up the rig for winter. We don't really flip a lot, which I know is big on here. We use mostly texas rigs on soft plastics, plus the wife uses senkos. I use spinnerbaits as my go to, then soft plastics, and throw some cranks in there as well. Looking at hitting Bantam on Sunday, we both have to work Saturday again. Can't wait!!!! Thanks much for the info guys.

has anyone here ever caught or seen channel cats come out of silver lake? i know they say its stocked with cats but i have been there exclusivly targeting them and not a nibble. i fish from shore so i like to use stink bait (rotten chicken liver) to draw them in, with success at many other fishing holes. why cant i get em @ silver?
