I have caught 2 channel cats at silver on night crawlers this year from my boat. Might be a bit hard from shore. If you are standing in front of the boat launch and you look strIght ahead to that island I caught them about 20 feet away from there. |

Nightcrawlers. Make sure you cast far enough out...use extra weight & a slip bobber rig so your bait stays near the bottom. Anytime from sunset on. There's some decent sized cats in there, if you like that sort of thing. _________________ Kira

thanks turtlekiss. im not really a fan of catfishing with night crawlers though. when i go out for cats i like to target only them. with the worms you always catch other fish also, or the baby channel cats. _________________ CatDaddy |

That's definitely true during the day, but at night, at Silver...If you hit deep enough water you're not likely to catch anything else. I use blood/liver PowerBait for river cats, but the stocked cats definitely seem to prefer nightcrawlers. From the launch, cast towards the island. The area to the right of the launch is shallow, but you can get relatively close to the deepest part of the channel, which is just past the point on the opposite side of the cove. You really need some serious weight to get your bait past that point though. _________________ Kira

fyi, anyone planning to launch at silver lake on sunday..... i just came back from there and some idiot decided to dump a pretty large tarp with a pile of dirt/brush right in the middle of the launch. i think it is large enough to prevent larger vessels from making it in water. i dont know who to call to get it cleaned up but if it dosent get moved soon there are gonna be alot of angry boaters on sunday! _________________ CatDaddy |

Unbelievable how inconsiderate people are....maybe DEP can get someone to fix it? It's a state launch so I would assume. _________________ Steve |

yes, very inconsiderate. also i was at silver last night ( only caught 2 small bullhead cats) and to my surprise the pile of debris is still sitting in the middle of the launch. i saw wet tire marks from a smaller trailer that was able to make it in, but larger trailers will not make it. i just cant beleive that after 5 days that mess is still sitting in the middle of the ramp. _________________ CatDaddy |
