I have a Minn Kota 80lb trolling motor and the pin on the upper mounting bracket keeps working its way out, it looks like a door hinge pin to a vehicle, the pin is steel and the bracket its in is aluminum, so I cant weld it, Has anybody had this problem?? Im thinking of machining a pin with 2 threaded ends and putting flat head screws on each end. Any Ideas???

im not 100% sure but is there a groove on one end of the pin where a "e" or "c" clip can go to prevent it from sliding back? if not.......do you have enough room on the end of the pin to drill a hole through it and install a cotter pin or something to stop it from being able to pull back through? if not then yah id probably just make a new pin with threaded ends and use a couple nuts to keep it on.

Flippy I have the same problem.

Hoppy on mine when the pin is in all the way it is flush with the motor

Still trtying to find the best solution as well.

Its flush when its in, I am going to have to make a pin with 2 threaded ends where I can put flat head bolts in them. CT, I will let you know how it works

Flippy can you post a picture of the pin on the bracket. I'm pretty good at thinking outside the box mechanically. But i'm a visual learner, so I need to see it. I have a couple ideas in mind already, but I need to see clearances around other housings and such. Without pics I'll try anyway.

You could drill 2 holes in the shaft of the pin, one on each side of the inside edge of the aluminum arm bracket., so the cotter pins are on the inside not the outside of the arm bracket if there are clearance issues outside, and put cotter pins or slam -in type pressure pins to keep it flom sliding back and forth.

You could tap the pin itself on each end, and insert a 1/2" long ftathead or shallow panhead screw with locktite on the threads to keep it from sliding from side to side.

Sorry I just seen this.

I do have a solution for you. Use a Loctite 243 with primer. You only need to do a small spot.

It's strong enough to hold it but if you ever need to remove it you can by tapping it out.

If your willing to try it, I can send you a sample.

If you can, post a picture just so I am clear on your application.

PS. You can also come by the house and I'll do it in about 5 mins. Your choice.

Ok, SkeeterRon thanks for the Loctite products, they didnt work for this application,,, I took my problem to my boss,when I told him I tried to cement it,, he laughed at me.. he drilled out a whole, I put a washer on it with a cotter pin,,, ITS NOT GOING ANYWHERE NOW,,If theres anybody out there that has this problem there are a couple ways to fix it,,,, dont try and cement it,,, its a waste of time... you could do what I did by drilling into the pin or they sell a little metal o-ring that you put on it and it resets itself,, but by it being a hardened steel against aluminum, it will eventually do it again, the best thing to do is drill it and cotter pin it,,,

Absolutely,,, give me a day or so,, If you know somebody that has a machine shop or a drill press and vice,, it is very easy, and I will tell you what,,, that pin is going nowhere...Im sick of carrying a hammer and watching the pin wiggle out and having to bang it back in,, I have a feeling you are feeling my pain Laughing
