Is this the crystal lake in Ellington? you don't get to many 3lb smallies here in ct unless your close to candlewood. ive never fished crystal lake,i usually go to webster lake in mass to chase smallies but ill have to give crystal lake a try. |

yea,i need to get down to the ct river. Don't get me wrong i catch my fare share of smallies in a year but the few lakes and rivers i have near by that actually have smallies don't seem to hold many smallies over 2 pounds but i did get my pb smallie 3.5 lb this year out of the quinebaug river and that was back to back with a 3lb even smallie. |

Hi Guys!
Hate to contradict anyone, but there are a lot of SM over 3 lbs. in Ct.
Last Fall, my fishing buddy and I were catching some decent size pike and as a bonus caught a large number of SmallMouth Bass -> all near or over 3 lbs. We were using live Golden Shiners on a river drift rig.
That was on the Housatonic River.
When the ice goes look for the mouth of those little run-off streams -> That's where the big SM female spawnners will be hanging out.
Great fun on a fly rod using big streamer flies

I caught my biggest smallie at 4 pounds 1 ounce out of the Farmington River. Smashed a shallow running shad rap. |

Hey tommytbomb, do you fish there often? and do you live near or in suffield? iv fished the canal a few times with only some small bass and sunnies. are the smalies in the canal or in the river near the canal? |

i fish the canal once a week come april u fish the canal itself right next to the lock. you will be standing above it or hop the fence and walk out on the platform you will still be ten twelve feet above it so use heavy line, its tuff liftin 3-5lb smallies that high! good luck _________________ theres a skeeter on my peter wack it off! |
