Hi Phil!

FYI: On the news and internet at 5:00 AM this morning 8/31/2011 Exclamation

Southern Vt. devastated!
260 roads closed in Vt.
Main road arteries Rt. 7, 4, 9, and 91 have washedout roads and bridges.
Rt. 7 completely washedout north of Bennington with road/bridge collapse. Same with Rt.4
Many communities trapped due to washedout roads/bridges and National Guard airlifting in basic necessaties.
Thousands without power, and will be for X amount of time.
Per Vt. gov. -> will take weeks/months to even get some semblence of road usage anywhere open or passable.
Most transport of milk and milk products out of Vt. stopped.

Specially built tugs and barges, that can get thru the canals from the Hudson to and out of Champlain being rounded-up to provide massive transportation needs for Vt. and Eastern NY.

This has turned out to be logisticts Nightmare Exclamation for Vt. and NY.

Eastern NY and the Catskills have the same problems as Vt.!

Your friend may say the fishing could be good -> But can you get there, if at all Question Shocked

Good Luck Exclamation

Thanks, Stephen, but I'd head up through NY on Interstate 87, take the ferry from Plattsbugh to Grand Isle and drive up to North Hero Island. I already spoke with the ferry company. No worries there. The southern part of VT was hit much harder than the northern part. It looks like the water level in Lake Champlain will crest below 98 feet, which is a few feet below flood stage and well within its normal range. The lake conditions will probably be better than they were when I was out there with Tim and Derek in May.

There's an Orvis in Avon, you know. It's not much of a store, but it's close.

No, Jim, this is a fairly last minute trip. No planning here. Although I told Captain Mickey Maynard that I'm in if his weekend charter cancels.

Hi Phil!

Yes, I kmow -> I go there all the time!

Manchester, Vt. is a beautiful town with lots of history (Todd Lincoln's home)
Great old hotels (Exquinox my favorite) + many many outlet stores.

Also Orvis flagship store (+ seperate Outlet - Warehouse - and discount Fishing stores).

After buying Cynthia her annual Bling-Bling there -> She gives me her credit card to get whatever I want at the Orvis stores (usually last stops Wink ) -> NICE LADY Exclamation Very Happy

Also it's a short ride, from Manchester, to the famous "Vermont Country Store" -> Tons of unique items!

From there we usually take another short ride up to Shelburn, Vt. (Rt. 7) to Harrington's across from the maritime museum -> BEST maple syrup/corn cob smoked Bacon, Hams, etc. anywhere!
Best smoked bacon is made from the jowls, and the only place I know of that does that! -> ABSOLUTELY SUPER Exclamation Very Happy

Oh! FYI:

Since southern Vt. got so devastated -> Lots of traffic/trucks are going around the Vt. roads closed and up I-87 NY to the ferries to get into Vt.

Per todays reports from my 3 classmates Bill, Neal, and Glen. (Bill and Glen moonlight running the Champlain ferries when not at their regular jobs.)
Better expect traffic delays going to Plattsburg Exclamation

Stay Safe!

Sheisse! The Lake Champlain weather forecast is for a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms on Sunday and a 60 percent chance of rain on Monday. Crying or Very sad

Does anyone want to go fishing around here this weekend? Confused
