Get over yourself, Stephen. Your self-righteousness is getting old.

Joe - Neither I nor hoppy, I'm sure, meant to make light of the losses that others have suffered. Some people like to read too much into things. Too much FOX News and MSNBC, I think. Rolling Eyes Like hoppy, Irene really was a non-event in my neck of the woods. I know that we were lucky. I'm glad that you've been able to help some of those who had storm losses out. And like hoppy already said, I'm glad that you and yours are apparently all safe.

Look y'all, the media and weathermen prepare you for what could happen Its pretty much a big guessing game as to what kind of power a storm of this intensity will have in certain areas. There are plenty of people not on the shore that took some real good hits from it, my parents for one in Seymour. This storm could have easily been much worse for us inland but luckily the storm lost its intensity. My parents would be without power for about 1 week but luckily I brought my generator over there and my brother wired it right into their fuse box so they can run everything but their dryer. I spent 4 hours after work today cleaning up their yard and cutting up a few trees that were downed. Al in all they git lucky also. If the media said to relax and not worry and we got hammered youd be all over them for not warning us. The arent perfect nor are you. They would rather have you over prepared then under prepared!

Here's a video from my Friend's Town in Wilmington, VT that shows what Irene did there.

Link

Here's another video from Guilford, CT where another friend of mine lives. They are expected to be without power for 3 to 5 days.

Link

Some of us definitely lucked out. I only had one tree fall in the back yard and it caused no real damage. I also lost power for almost 24hrs and I am counting my blessings that it wasn't worse. As you can see from the vids it could have been much much worse if the storm had taken a little different path.

Crazy how Vermont got hit so hard. It doesn't touch water, Irene had to go through Ct and Ma and they got wacked! Worse than what I got! I haven't read too much, I hope there wasn't too much life loss... I think there were a total of 15 deaths and I'm glad my family and friends were all ok.
Seems everyone here on board is ok also.

Lets fish.

We've been planning to vacation on the shore of North Hero Island on Lake Champlain in Vermont, but the still rising water level concerns me:

I might have to cancel our trip. We probably won't go if the lake is still overflowing its banks.

It's the same storm and the same rain levels from what I can tell. The difference is all the runoff from the surrounding mountains gets hyper-concentrated into the runoff rivers and streams and that's what ends up happening. It is amazing to see the devastation up there.

I heard back from Captain Mickey Maynard. He said that Lake Champlain should be fine for vacationing fishermen this weekend. Whoo hoo!
