Congrats !!!!! Im planning to hit winchester with a buddy....im just curious what were ya throwing ?? spinnerbait?? im guessing back in the stumps??
A guy down in NJ lost what was estimated to be a 46 INCH pike, (surftalk) in the passaic river (another pike haven)..he did manage to get a brief pic of it splashing in the water.. RIVERMONSTERS!!!!!!! _________________ Success Favors the Brave.......... |

i actually was trying to target bass so i used a blk/chart berkley powerbait worm with a tiny sinker so it could hit the bottom faster. i was surprised that it went after it because it was my first time using that type of soft bait so i would try different flicks in the water. it was on a medium to fast retrieve. i saw another pike in about 1 ft of water that looked to be 40+ inches but i couldn't get there fast enough (you could see the dorsal fin stick out of the water). it was caught to the left of the stumps near the weeds close to the log house. good luck with your fishing trip. it was my first pike from winchester, the water is high so watch out for those underwater stumps.
that must have been a monster of a pike, i would think 30+ pounds. Im trying to hit ct river for a better chance to catch some pike, i love how they fight! |

Welcome aboard Lax101.
Are you having the pike mounted or did you eat it? in any case, that was a pretty fish. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Pike will slice through braid like a hot knife through butter. I've had them bite through sixty pound before, with no problem. |

You should be okay if you tie thick fluro to braid. You can use a wire leader, but I prefer 40-50lb flurocarbon. It's held me up, and most of the guys I talk to use it as well. Right now I have 50lb braid with 40lb fluro on my heavy setup. _________________ Steve |
