|
Sunday I rode my bike to Twin Brooks Park Pond in Trumbull and spent about 3 hours fishing there.
I started by throwing trout worms on the bottom in some deeper areas of one of the ponds, but never got a hit.
I then started moving from pond to pond where I was hoping to get into some fish with crankbaits.
Rapalas I tried throwing were a size 4 silver shad Jointed Shad Rap, size 7 firetiger Original Floater, size 7 brown trout Original Floater, and size 4 perch Jointed Shad Rap.
Stuck with a slow retrieve with the rod tip down and got lucky with a chubby 7" yellow perch on the firetiger Original Floater. |

Open water? Nice job, I like ice fishing and all, but open water is still the favorite way to go. |

Per the 2012 Connecticut Angler's Guide:
So the pond is closed from March 1 to the third Saturday in April. And, apparently, the DEEP doesn't know about the yellow perch in there. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Did you guys ever know that it's common for lakes and ponds that are all part of a river watershed to hold the same types of fish?
Bunnells Pond, Twin Brooks Park, Great Hollow Lake, and a condo complex in Monroe are all part of the Pequonnock River watershed.
Fish along the Pequonnock watershed include LMB, YP, CB, CP, BB, CR, T, AE, and S.
White suckers are also found in all but Great Hollow. Great Hollow has never showed signs of carp either.
Sunfish include bluegills, redbreasts, and pumpkinseeds. Rock bass are also found at Bunnells Pond and Monroe condo complex.
The state started the channel catfish program with Bunnells Pond back in 2007. |

i believe the west pequonnock reservoir is also part of that watershed, which you need a permit from Aquarion water company to fish, it's supposed to be a good spot for bass. I catch trout on several parts of the river, but i never have any luck in terms of trout on the lakes and ponds throughout the watershed. Btw Michael, which pond did you catch the perch at? |

That's right Alex. The West Branch starts at a condo complex in Monroe before feeding into West Pequonnock Reservoir.
I've caught trout on the West Branch before feeding into the reservoir. I have also caught grass pickerel in that same area. |

I don't think that I've ever caught a grass pickerel. I think that I saw one in the Farmington River, though. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

The way to fish Saugatuck is either live shiners of a slip bobber or crankbaits imitating an alewife or perch.
Haven't fished Isinglass in a long time and not too familiar with West Pequonnock Reservoir. West Pequonnock should be good for bass and sunnies but don't know of any nice bass in there. Just north of the reservoir before Pepper Street is the West Branch of the Pequonnock that holds trout |

thanks again, i also hear that using big spoons at saugatuck produces BIG trout and walleye, however i spoke with someone that has fished there for 5 years and he has only caught 1 walleye. What are some of the fish you caught there with a crankbait? |

Big Krocodiles and Kastmasters are good for big browns and walleye too.
I'm into Rapala crankbaits, so anything in the Shad Rap family would be the way to go. Minnow Raps and Tail Dancers would be good too. |

i have a few rapalas as well, like the crank rap, jointed shad, and husky jerk. I hear there are a lot of smallmouth there as well, have you fished it before? |
