Went over to Keeney Cove yesterday for the second time since the weather turned. It's very slow but it still feels good to have a line in the water. I used mainly senkos and power worms and fish all over the cove. Finally landed a decent sized bass that made the afternoon. The weather was perfect so I really didn't care if I caught anything at all.

One concerning thing was the fact that I saw at least 40-50 dead blue gill and panfish floating on the water. They were all over the cove and washing up on shore. They varied from large to small so not sure what is going on. Haven't really seen that down there. Fish every 5 feet were floating belly up.

Anyone else see this on the CT River?

Maybe it was that Patriots sweat shirt that killed them. LOL

Please report it

Fish kills should be reported as soon as possible. During normal business hours (8 a.m.- 4 p.m.) you may report a fish kill by calling any of the following DEEP offices:
Hartford (860) 424-3474 Marlborough (860) 295-9523
Harwinton (860) 485-0226 Old Lyme (860) 434-6043
Litchfield (860) 567-8998
During other than normal business hours you may call DEEP Emergency Dispatch at (860) 424-3333.
Be prepared to provide your name and phone number and to describe the location of the kill, the number of fish observed, the type of fish observed (if possible), and anything else that seems out of the ordinary.

For more information on fish kills, please read the Spawning Related Fish Kill Fact Sheet and Winter Fish Kill Fact Sheet.

Hey, thanks for that, Eagle! Here are links to the Spawning Related Fish Kill Fact Sheet and Winter Fish Kill Fact Sheet:

We've seen dozens of dead or dying fish floating on the surface of the water in the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant Canal this year, although they've been widely scattered. They've been primarily sunfish, although we've also seen black crappie and shad. From the description on the Spawning Related Fish Kill Fact Sheet, I think that's exactly what it is, a spawning related fish kill.

Sunfish don't spawn in 40 degree water dude. There was a raw sewage leak there from the last flood and it will happen again. Make sure you wash your hands really well after touching anything in the water there. There is a lot of bacteria and sewage in Keeney and Wethersfield Coves. Has been for years

Probably was some sewage/runoff from some factory that killed em. You should report it so they can document it and maybe find out what happened.
