I don't have much experience fishing for bluefish, but I know that the Connecticut State Record is 24 pounds, 13 ounces. Yesterday, NWDarkcloud (aka Bob), TurtleKiss (aka Kira) and I caught a bunch over the flats of the Connecticut River that ranged from about eight pounds to 16 pounds, five ounces. After the fun we had with them, yesterday, I'd rather catch a bunch of blues than pike.
What's considered to be a BIG bluefish? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

If you don't have much history with catching bluefish, or big bluefish, than big would be a 10 pound gator blue.
But if you've caught plenty over 10 pounds, than a 15 pound gator blue is big.
You hardly find bluefish called gorilla blues anymore. Those are 20 pounds and over. |

Mid teens put up a hell of a fight PECo. Twenty+ is an absolute monster. The 24 was a true freak of nature. If this year is like last, those big blues will hang around for a while before they head south.
From mid-to-late October last fall.

Nice vid Phil!
If you had throwing a topwater 4"+ and made lots of noise on the surface, you would have been getting tons of hooksets and monster explosions.
Looking forwards to more vids, and the best part of a bluefish vid is watching the fish exploding on the lure. |
