Thursday evening I arrived at the western end of Seaside around 5:30. Tide was heading out.
As I walked along the Fayerweather jetty, I was seeing TONS of bait on the surface on the Black Rock Harbor side. The bait was a combination of silversides and peanut bunker. Nothing was hitting the bait as I tried throwing topwaters and a FLR-10.
I headed farther out to the rocks facing 2A and saw tons of bait out there too with a fisherman flyfishing on a kayak and 2 guys on a large canoe, but never got into anything.
Once sunset was approaching and there were no signs of action with all that bait, I headed down towards Breezy Point. On my way down there I run into 3 usual surfcasters who were casting topwaters. I asked them how they were doing and they said the tailors were popping up occasionally and they had already gotten a few explosions and swirls. I started casting but niente.
Went to Breezy Point and saw 2 schools of bait with occasional swirls and splashes but they were farther out.
Headed back over to where those 3 surfcasters were and they said the blues got active again but were too far out.
Hit the road around 8pm
The surfcasters I saw said the reason why the blues were more active in the area the guys were in was due to water being more open and schools of bait being more scattered. |
