After wandering around Sunday and getting home feeling tired around 7:30pm, I took a nap but didn't open my eyes til just after midnight. Wasn't feeling tired throughout the overnight hours so I looked at the tides and hit the honey hole, arriving just before 6am with low tide being 7:04. Plan was to stay til 11 or 11:30.
Things were pretty slow through the early morning. By 6:45 was when I finally got an explosion on a stainless steel green mullet SSP-12. Saw a nice bluefish come shooting straight up out of the water and easily set the hook. The blue right away started peeling line out. I get some line in and then the blue gives me slack, which I reel in. The blue then starts running again. I get some line in and then lose the fish.
To make up for that bluefish, later was when I get a huge explosion just a few yards right in front of me. Easily set the hook and this fish started running and shaking. Get it in to find it being a 25" schoolie. I love how aggressive those younger stripers from the mid 20s to mid 30s are, and a great fight on light action.
Once the sun got higher and it was 9, I was seeing many sea robins coming up to the surface. Landed a total of 5 on an original pearl shad FLR-10.
Ended the morning at the boat ramp before calling it a day around 11:15. |
