| Whether it be surfcasting for blues and stripers or freshwater fishing for predators such as lmb, smb, walleye, pike, and pickerel, are you a hardcore angler who uses a heavier setup to just get the fish in or are you more of an avid angler who uses a lighter setup so you can have a nice battle with the fish? |

| i personally go with lighter gear. i like to have my reels scream when i fight fish. |

Depends on the situation.
Fishing any type of tournament, get that sucker to the boat ASAP.
Fishing C&R, I'll use as heavy a setup as conditions allow, No need to put extra stress on a fish that you're going to return to the water.
If I'm fishing to load up the freezer, or for hardy species like blues, I'll push the limits of how light I can go. |

Same ting here Fisherman357.
I'd say part of fishing is having a nice battle with a fish, which is why I use a lighter setup while fishing. But it's a total different story if you're in a tournament, which I can understand. |

Even with heavy gear (12' Carp Rods) it can still take good 15-20 min to fight a 20-30lbs fish 
We use both. 6-7 footers are great for kayak or limited off shore access. 12 footers are for off shore with plenty of headroom.
Personally, as much as I love to fight the fish.....there is nothing like seeing that rod bend. |

I like to fish light. Applying proper drag pressure is the key on ultralight tackle to shortening the battle. I'm often fighting steelhead in heavy currents on 4lb. test. I keep the drag set extremely light but am constantly adjusting with my thumb rather than the drag knob. Allows me to react to changes and tires the fish much quicker.
