Hit the local TMA Sunday. Arrived around 2:15pm hoping for fresh stockies.
First stop was the Merritt bridge. That's where I landed a chubby 11" brown on a gold J-5 and had another brown follow a bleeding copper flash F-7. The brown slammed the Jointed!
After trying a number of other lures I head down to the honey hole. Hit a number of spots, including wading in the water in an area that would have stockies swimming around. Never had a follower or hit and no signs of fresh stockies.
Kept moving downstream with no luck before heading back to the honey hole and then back up to the Merritt.
At the Merritt I threw the J-5 and F-7 for a while but no action. Once I switched over to the legendary helsinki shad HJ-6 is when I got into fish. Total was a 13" rainbow and lost 2 rainbows. The one I landed followed the lure before turning back and then following again and lightly hitting the rear treble.
Once action shut down at the Merritt, I went back to the honey hole to play around with the HJ-6 but no more.
Headed back to the bike just after 6pm. |

Treble hooks are not illegal in all TMA locations. Each TMA has its own set of regulations. Not sure which Michael is referring to..
Either way, if you're fishing the stock trebles on those lures, bend the barbs down at least. |

Michael did you see those d bag kayakers come down or were you up past them. Def not legal and pretty stupid. My friend was in waders in the water when they came down. _________________ Trust me. Use waxworms ! |
