After getting home from Seaside, I got my freshwater gear and headed back out the door arriving at Mondo Pond around 1:45pm.

First stop was my usual spring spot now that weeds have died a lot. Threw a spinner and gold HJ-8. Had a pickerel swipe the HJ-8.

Next stop was where I was into the crappie last time. First lure was the gold HJ-8 and did a number of different stop and go retrieves with it resulting in nothing. Then switched over to a purple nurple XRSH-6 which resulted in a pickerel swiping it. Next lure was a helsinki shad HJ-8 which resulted in 2 pickerel. Biggest was 15" 1 pound 3 ounces. Once pickerel stopped hitting, I threw the Strike King Lightning Shad to see what the crappie were doing. Had 2 come up that I missed and set the hook on 3. Landed 2 of the 3 with both being 10.5". The one I lost looked more like 8".

Once the crappie stopped hitting I made my way to other spots with the helsinki shad HJ-8 varying the stop and go jerkbait retrieve. 1 spot landed me a slender 12" slime dart and another landed me a chunky 11" humpback.

Made my way back to the spring spot and the crappie area resulting in a crappie coming up for the Strike King and landing a dinky pickerel on the Strike King.

Hit the road around 4:45pm

Word I have is 2 shallow coves at the spring pond that don't get choppy and have shade were 80% covered with very skim ice.

That's a common nickname for pickerel used here in the Northeast.

Slimy fish that comes darting out of nowhere.

Last year around this time of year I was fishing both ponds and titled the report "Day of the Slime Dart"

I recently found out a nickname they use in the chain pickerel's far southern region is "poor man's barracuda".
