Hey beginner fisherman here, my son & I want to go LMB fishing. Just wondering if there are any good local spots around here or even close by 20-30 min. I heard maybe Rainbow Reservoir but you really need a boat. We're in the process of getting our boat fixed so if you have any good spots from the shore first let me know then from a boat and we can hit up those spots soon. Any help would be appreciated. Very Happy

Fish the CT River by the Windsor Lock Canals or the Enfield side. THis can be good for Smallmouths

Thanks, RDG. I hadn't heard about the nesting bald eagles.

I have fished the canal quite a bit, heading on by the old enfield dam across the suffield bridge, I have some success, just not sure where exactly on the canal you guys get the best results.

I haven't fished the canal in years, I grew up in Windsor Locks, I used to fish the southern locks, but they are all fenced in and overgrown now... a couple of years ago I fished underneath the Rt 91 bridge on the WL side near the train station and caught a nice small mouth by one of the bridge pilings. Don't know of many shore spots near there now though. We used to ride our bikes, mind you this was the early/mid 1980's, and we used to stop where stoney brook dumped into the river, don't know if that's accessible now though. I haven't done the entire trail in decades so I don't know if much shore is accessible now either. One of these nice days I'll get up there and try it again... used to fish the canal with my Father after dinner in the summer, would catch some bass and crappies... last time I was there it seemed the canal was really low.
