Went fishing for smallmouth bass in Parsons landing up in Enfield on Saturday. Was excited to get out there for the first time this year. Earliest time I have been on the water in the spring. Unfortunately we got skunked. First time ever. Wondering if the water still too high and still too cold . Anybody have any thoughts.

We were using live minnows and drifting. Concentrating on the shallower water 3 feet to 6 feet. I was also throwing out swim baits,Rapalas, small top water walk the dog baits

You should try small jigs with craw trailers.

Yeah. 3" grubs (I prefer white) with a lead head down near the rocks will also get their attention, of course, you will also get the attention of perch, rock bass, ect as well.

That was going to be my next choice. Years ago I caught them on tube jigs, bouncing them off the bottom. They worked really well.

I usually launch at Kings island and do really well above the island. I usually throw 5" grubs or creature baits and about 4 feet of water. I usually do fish this area in a canoe though. Launch may be to shallow if you are running something with a motor.

Is it still shallow with the higher waters, i went there last summer and water was barely a foot or two high, i don't know who would be able to get a boat in there.

It is about two feet deep at the launch now. I have a10 foot aluminum boat with a 8 hp motor and have no problem now. During the summer I have to walk the boat out about 50 yards before I get in.

Pretty sure there is a deep v on that boat right? May be a little rough. Would have to get it kinda far out to float it. River is still high but dunno if it is that high. If I end up over there for work tomorrow I can try to take a pic of the launch for you.

If it draws more than 18 inches it may hit bottom

Even though it's a deep-V, an aluminum Sylvan probably draws six inches. The question is, "How high are the bottom bunks on the trailer?"

That i am not sure of, I wanted to drop my boat in there because i hear the striped bass hang around those rapids and there is also good smallies, but I think i will just put my boat just south of the 91 bridge and just head northward.

So I was able to put my boat into kings island launch, but it was a terrible waste of time, current was moving super fast and it was very difficult to find the channel.

I almost got stopped when putting my boat in because my emergency shut off clip came off of my outboard at the boat ramp. So I am floating until I notice why I can't start my engine, I use the trolling motor to get back closer to the boat ramp( which isn't easy on a current). I find the emergency clip in about a foot of water. I was only there for about an hour after getting tired of fighting the current and hitting my outboard on rocks.
