Has anybody been by the ct river from cromwell to hartford? How high is the water and is it favorable for catfishing from shore? Or even schoolies? _________________ CatDaddy |

Here's a link to the USGS Current Conditions for Connecticut: Streamflow page:
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/CT/nwis/current?type=flow
The Connecticut River in Hartford is above NWS Flood Stage, today. Whether that's favorable for any kind of shore fishing, I don't know. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Harbor Park in Middletown is just starting to flood, the river is HIGH! I attempted to fish from the bank in Portland yesterday, across river from Cromwell, and it was a waste of time. The river is moving way too fast and there are full on trees coming down in the water along with tons of other debris. _________________ Join the yak pack! – www.connecticutkayakanglers.com / http://connecticutkayakanglers.bigcartel.com |

River is raging don't even think about going out there for at the bare minimun 10 days. Depending on the rain totals maybe even 2 weeks. Ct river is not to be played with. You can find yourself in trouble in a hurry, especially the dexters area up passed enfield. I would let it receed. The water in the river is pure mud too.
I hit the Farmington from Barts this weekend and the water looked perfect for striper then we went to the mouth into the CT and it was completely unfishable. even the farmington was a tough fising spot a dozen boats out there 1 14'' schoolie was caught. |

I'm chomping at the bit myself, but fishing the river right now just isn't going to happen. I live in Glastonbury and work in Hartford so I drive past Keeney, over the main river and then past Wethersfield Cove twice each day. The water level is just too high. I've been joking that I need a boat to get to my shore spots for the last two weeks. You can certainly get to spots on the main river, but as has been noted, the current is very fast, the water is murky and full of debris. Today's rain certainly doesn't help either. Oh well. I'll be sticking to lakes for the time being.

If anybody is after carp and has a smaller boat, the flood plains in Cromwell off the Mattabassett River are infested and the water in there is crystal clear. Had some beasts 1/3 the size of my kayak swimming under me in 4 feet of water. _________________ Join the yak pack! – www.connecticutkayakanglers.com / http://connecticutkayakanglers.bigcartel.com |

Curious where you are launching your yak to get in there when it's flooded, AV??
BTW,..looks like the CTR will be back down to a reasonable level in the next day or two,....unfortunately we will have ripping winds until the weekend though! _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

There is a launch in Cromwell to the right of Dunkin Donuts (24 Shunpike Rd, Cromwell, CT 06416) There is a dirt parking lot and the launch is carry-in and trap rock. It's a great place to go in when the river is high, really easy. It's rough in the Summer months when the water is low, the launch gets muddy...like 6-8" deep slop!!! NOTE: If you're looking to fish the lower Mattabassett near the CT River it's a solid 30-45 minute paddle down

Salmon River was launchable day before yesterday, if you didn't mind driving through a few feet of water. Blaine Anderson posted a vid up on FB. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

NWS calling for this storm system to produce 2 to 4 inches of rain, with the heaviest being Wednesday afternoon into the overnight hours.
That rain we just had hit the Hartford area the worst. I saw tons of big clusters of yellow and orange hitting that area that night. |
