Hit the housey on saturday for the first time in weeks. launched out of o'sullivans (which IS open) at day break two other boats. enough ice to be a pain in a$$ but mostly patches. suface temp was 29, tide was moving out. the fish were packed tight in front of sunnyside jigging worked but lots of foul hooking. by 10 there were 9 other boats and a few yaks. took a ride down river a couple miles for a look but found it to be a barren wasteland. headed back up and tried trolling for a while, got a few bumps and caught a few icebergs but couldn't hook up. went back to jigging but the fish got even more tight lipped. saw a salmon about 30" cruise by the boat heading downriver, pretty cool. hit the road around 2pm.

The schoolies still had their legs crossed on Monday.
NWDarkcloud (aka Bob) and I were on fish for most of the day, but managed to boat only 21 without snagging them. Bob caught a 28 inch keeper, though. We saw some guys fishing blade baits (e.g., Silver Buddy) and snagging up 10 fish for every one they hooked inside the mouth. The only guy we saw throwing an umbrella rig didn't get a hit on it. We felt our lines and jigs hitting fish all day; we caught A LOT of scales!
We went upriver of Two Mile Island twice, but didn't mark any fish there. We heard from a couple of boats that went downriver from Sunnyside that they didn't mark any schools worth fishing there, either. The guy who got the most action was an ice fisherman who found a slightly deeper spot under the ice in the cove at Two Mile Island that held a school of feeding schoolies. He said that he caught a bunch but snagged up only one. The water temperature got as high as 36 degrees. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
