Any recommendation:

Looking to buy a surf rod maybe 10 feet or longer,
has to be 2 piece since i cant carry a one piece around the subway in nyc city.
thin but sturdy with sensitive tip and can cast far. any recommendation,
Saw penn pursuit but thought it was too big the one they had at dicks in westfield.

i have a penn fierce was thinking of getting a nice reel,
saw quantum smoke pti. Any recommendation on set ups along with line. Thinking of doing lot of doing lot of artifical lure fishing this year. Already stacked up on on bucktail and rapalas and poppers.

Cant wait to fish again. Cabin fever setting in.

I just bought Tsunami Trophy series as the price is decent and the warranty is pretty good also.

Don't see that every day on the Subway. The Tsunami mentioned by FF is a good rod, as is the Cabelas Salt Striker Cork Wrap, both under $100. BassPros Offshore Angler Power Stick is also a popular rod down on the OBX. If you want to jump up some, the St. Croix and Daiwa Saltigas are nice.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I love lamiglas. There great rods, and you do not to spend a fortune to get a great rod.

Lamiglas are great, especially if you go for a nice custom rod. But you will pay, and most guys I watch surf cast it wouldn't make a shit-bit of difference for anyway because their casting technique sucks and they fight their rods as much as the fish. If die-hard surfcasting is your thing, then a quality rod like and LG matched to a reel like a Van Staal, ZeeBaas or one to look out for next season, 3-Tand (same guys behind VS on a new project), is worth the investment. We're talking about stuff that will be repeatedly taking a dunking in the salt. As for the Quantum Smoke, I've never fished it but have sent back 4 Cabos on warrantied repairs (they go to ZEBCO), and am done with Quantum. KVD fishes them because he gets paid a butt load of money. I don't and therefore need reels that work more often than not. I've had far better luck with Shimano, Daiwa and Penn.

These things have been turning heads, and I'm waiting till the salt spinning model appears.

the offshore angler power sticks are great rods for the price
i have the 11' and 12'.
the 11ft casts far better and longer than the 12' and breaks down into(2 pieces) 5'6"
i also have three tica dolphin tc3 surf rods...10' and the 12' heavy and 12'EXTRA heavy.both of these rods SHOULD be rated EXTRA,EXTRA,HEAVY
for traveling on the subway...the 10ft is better.it breaks down into 5ft pieces and is very light and thin and cast a mile!.
casting MORE than 3oz is a little suspect...apart from that it's a great rod!
stay away from the 11ft and 12ft tica. they break down into 4ft and 8ft sections!
i found out the hard way when the ups guy showed up with a HUGE 10foot tube Shocked
FYI:they don't tell you this on the tica website Mad the 8ft section is a PITA!
if you're just throwing chunks, the powerstick might be the one.
if it's lures or chunks,i use the10ft tica for herring to 30"stripers

Do you know if they have plans on making spinning reels? I love my Van Staal reel and thinking about getting 1 more to set that up differently. Right now my back up reel is a Penn SSV but after using my Van Staal all year its amazing how cheap the Penn feels and acts.

As for reels, the PENN Fierce is the best for the money. I used to have the more expensive Sargus which lasted me not even 6 months after running into weird issues, while all of my Fierces have seen tons of pressure for months and still run true with no issues. Drag is excellent.

Ebay has the best listings for the Fierce vs what you'd pay at Walmart.

But if you'd rather spend closer to $100 I'd go with the Conflict

Spoke to their head of sales a few weeks back. Plans for the spinning reel are in the works, but it would be next year at the earliest. Basically, 3-Tand wants to carry on the VS & ZeeBaas quality at a reasonable price point. The salt water fly reels were impressive as hell.

Thanks RNA, hopefully they can keep it local to instead of overseas like VS did.

Yes, new insane surf that came out is only $150. It's a great rod, some people also consider a fortune to be a different amount than others.
