Friday afternoon I hit the local discharge. Arrived around 2:30pm for the mid tide. Setup was a 7' Okuma Tarvos/Fierce 2000/Spiderwire Stealth 10 pound.
Threw the Clackin Minnows and Saltwater X-Rap again and also tried bottom bouncing a 1/2 ounce chartreuse bucktail. Even played around with a chartreuse ghost X-Rap Walk XRW-9 as a pencil popper.
Like it has been, the only lure that saw attention was the spotted minnow SXR-10. On the payse, a striper that looked to be about 18" came up and hit it before going back down. That was right around the mid tide period of the outgoing in the same area that I caught the 14"er.
Herring were making their way in and out for a while as tide got lower but never got into anymore stripers. A loon was the only one feeding.
Hit the road just after 5:30pm. |

I was the only one there but could tell they were herring because of what I saw a few times in the loon's mouth.
Occasionally I'd see those pods of small swirls and waves on the surface come in and then head back out as if it was baitfish cruising just under the surface. |

sea herring don't usually behave that way.
I'm not saying there aren't any in there but realize there are bunker pods that stay in the harbor all year...there have also been mullet there in the winter. _________________ Trust me. Use waxworms ! |

Might have actually been mullet CD. A local who was fishing there the day before talked about not seeing much mullet for this time of year.
Also, I could see the fish in the mouth of the loon was mostly a shad like silver gray all around with a white bottom. Length looked anywhere from 4 to 6 inches.. |
