Didn't want to start a new thread over ice predictions/anticipation but I'm goin out on a limb and gonna plan on dec.15 for my 1st trip. Here in new Britain, the eastern shoreline of batterson park pond is iced up to about 20-25 yds out. (I sure wish ice fishin' was allowed on it though ) Winds are down, rain is gone, and clear skies at night=cold Gotta look for water bodies that are 1000+ ft. in elevation. In the meantime, check those leaders, fire up the hand auger and let the games begin! |

I like the way you think! At some point this weekend i have to take a drive around and see what i can find with some ice on it. Then i can start really getting anxious! _________________ "Au... Ger...! You know me. Chillin on the ice with my jigga's!"

I'm looking at the NWS forecast for Highland Lake.
As of 12:06am 12/1/13, they're calling for there to only be 3 nights throughout the week for it to get below freezing, with the coldest night being 28. Daytime highs will range from around 40 to the mid 40s with 1 day reaching 48! That day will be rainy and only get down to 34 overnight!
Keep an eye on the forecast to see how much difference they make in the temps and precipitation. |

Hi,
Is it really necessary to go thru this each year ?
If your that dumb -> Go ahead and take your chances on thin ice -> and your name will be submitted for a "Darwin Award" ...!

Last time I checked "safe ice" thickness is usually the same thickness every year.
Unless of course the "Law of Physics" ceases to exist, or changes every year.
Then there is the old proverb..."You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."

maybe you bought a big truck or van and dont remember what safe is for those lol
or maybe with all of this acid rain, when lakes start to freeze the ice is less safe
