Monday morning I headed back down to Seaside and start off at the city boat ramp for a short period before heading over to the jetty and island. High tide was scheduled for 11:13am and arrived at the boat ramp right around peak high.
Wasn't into anything after being at the boat ramp for about a half hour so I headed over to the Fayerweather jetty.
When I started walking out on the jetty I could smell bait out there. As I got farther out the waters were choppy due to new moon and steady 5 to 10 mph east and southeast winds. Tried throwing the SP-9 in a few areas but only had 1 explosion.
Got the explosion in one of the areas I was hitting them at last time but seeing tide was still high and waters weren't favorable for topwater I threw the pearl grey shiner FLR-10 out there. The FLR-10 landed me a total of 10 schoolies up to 16" 2 pounds 1 ounce.
Once tide got lower and the afternoon went on, winds picked up a bit and birds started getting active with a few small quick blitzes. The big issue was the conditions and where the fish were. Fish were farther out than Saturday and the conditions today were a combination of winds and waters, preventing me from casting out to the fish and making it more of a chest waders day than hip boots.
Between 1pm and 4:30pm I only landed 2 more schoolies which were on topwater as I watched the birds diving and stripers swiping their tails farther out.
After getting a bit wet and putting in the time, I had had it and headed over to the boat ramp where conditions were much nicer. That's where I landed a 16" schoolie on the purple shad XRW-9.
Hit the road around 5pm |
