Headed down to hit the areas I've been fishing recently at Seaside. Arrived at the Fayerweather jetty around 2:15pm while tide was starting to come in. High tide for Black Rock Harbor was scheduled for 6:18pm. Winds ranged from the north to the west with steady 10 mph speeds and gusts up to 25 mph.
Tried throwing the SP-9 in a number of areas as I walked out to Fayerweather Island but never had any swirls or explosions. Nothing out at areas on Fayerweather that produced earlier this year.
Once it was almost 4pm I worked my way back towards shore while casting and eventually got to the city boat ramp around 4:45pm.
Nothing was happening with the SP-9 so once it was getting closer to 5:30pm I tried throwing a pearl grey shiner FLR-10. I had a bite going with the FLR-10 for a while as nothing ever touched or followed the SP-9.
Total was numerous hits, lost 1, and landed 5 schoolies all on the FLR-10.
Hit the road around 6:30pm.
Highlight of the evening was seeing the Smithtown Sighting.
This evening's bite seemed to be showing signs of the topwater bite starting to wind down as water temps get cooler and lures now being plugs, crankbaits, and soft plastics. |

Weird lights over Smithtown.
There's usually 4 of them. You'd see 1 eventually move a bit before it disappears and then shows up in a different area.
Google "smithtown sighting" and there will be plenty of history about it. |

There are 4 stacks visible from the sound along the Smithtown coast, too. It could be rhythm of the flashing beacons on each one, coupled with optical distortion from across the sound , which may imply slight movement. |
