Got to the Fayerweather jetty just after 1:30pm Wednesday and low tide was scheduled for 4:08pm. Conditions seemed to be more favorable for a striper bite than a bluefish bite.
Started off on the Black Rock Harbor side while tide was still going out. Didn't get any explosions on the SP-9 and nothing hit the FLR-10. Caught 3 sea robins on the CNM-9.
Later once the tide was low enough to wade out farther, I got into some topwater with the silver SP-9. Missed out on 2 bluefish that hit the lure twice. Had a striper explode and later landed a very chubby 24" striper weighing about 6 or 7 pounds. Gave me 1 good run before hauling it in.
The topwater bite turned off so I headed over to the pier around the turn of the tide. Didn't get any swirls or explosions but saw a pod of bunker getting hammered.
Last stop was the city boat ramp where I ran into the same surfcaster. He wasn't into anything with pencil poppers but had a blue chop a live bunker in half before taking the head off the hook.
I landed 3 schoolies ranging from 16 to 20" all on the SP-9.
After dark once the bigger fish got active with the bunker, schoolies seemed to disappear.
Hit the road around 7:15pm. |

Yep. I've always got a bunker snag or two on a heavy mono leader and swivel that I can quickly attach to my tactical angler clip. Rip that baby through the school and let the fish do the rest.

As for your perfect match. A fisherman I've started running into a Twin Brooks Park. He and his bro brag about their catches and consider small but chunky 1 to 2 pound largemouths trash fish. One says water levels don't effect the bite, insisting he's right. Only other time I saw him since I shut him up and made him leave the spot he started fishing first was when his bro got out of the car yelling at me and threatening to push me in the water.
I knew just what to say back to the guy with my back turned towards him. He walked away screaming and sped off. Laughing
BTW- Both of them were the same way I see you and Wade a lot. Both guys were all fucked up and messed up with their outfits as if they got drunk at a party and got in a fight before getting kicked out Laughing
