Saturday's plan was to fish at Breezy Point on the last of the incoming due to what time I was gonna get there and the time of the tide. When I get down there around 3:15pm I saw white caps galore and huge waves with sea mist from the waves!

That meant head down to the Fayerweather jetty so I could cast into calmer Black Rock Harbor.

Lures I threw while the tide was still coming in included purpledescent Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, tennessee olive shad Clackin Minnow CNM-9,pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-10, blue sardine Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, mullet Saltwater Rattlin Rapala SRNR-8, and silver blue Skitter Pop SP-9.

Caught a chubby 16" schoolie with the SSR-9.

Once it was getting closer to high tide I had to head over to the pier due to the waves crashing over the jetty. Didn't catch anything at the pier.

Next was the city boat ramp. Had what seemed to be a tailor shoot up and pull back on the CNM-9 right near shore. Caught another schoolie around 16" with the CNM-9. Gave me a nice little fight on the schoolie setup.

Just before sunset around the turn of the tide I headed over to Remington. Didn't catch anything there and the usual surf caster wasn't there. 2 others were there going for porgy.

Hit the road just before 7pm.

From recent trips to Seaside it seems like most surf casting action has been around West Beach, Fayerweather Island, and inner areas of Black Rock Harbor.

Many people were at Seaside today with their iPhones, cameras, and video recorders for this:

Very gusty 20 to 30 mph east and southeast winds had the waters very choppy with waves up to 5 feet!!!

Answers my question about the sound or river tomorrow. Forecast is for much the same.

With all that white wash any bait there would be easy picking for stripers lurking in it..It was rough but,i bet there were stripers in it.A low hard cast and heavy lure may have cut through the wind to get out far enough.

Issue would have been how soaked I would have gotten if I tried

Waders and a rain coat??? Sometimes getting soaked is worth it.
But you do have a valid point.

Fish don't know state lines but they do know a sustained east wind. Around here that is the only thing that causes conditions like pictured above and it turns the shallower western sound, especially closer to shore, into a repository for all the c**p floating around as the east wind pushes it all west, even if a strong tide is flowing east as it drops. Never seen bait in open water under those circumstances. Water is like chocolate milk.

That has been my observation.

So if the wind blows from the west...there won't be crap floating around...and the water will be clear as jin then

i had to deal with the same thing on sat, Went out at sound school Pier at new haven, the wind was blowing insane, could hardly get to cast the line far. Caught like 3 sea robins, besides that michael's pic justifies how the waves were.
At some point thought the waves would come up on on the pier.

When a Nor'easter cranks up the surf, it's time to head to RI. Check out https://www.facebook.com/thefishermanmagazine. You're gonna get wet. When the wind picks up like that, it's put away the balsa wood Rapala's and 8ft. rods and get serious with 10-12' surf rods and heavy pencil poppers, Hopkin's lures, etc. It's got to be heavy and low profile. I haven't done a fall surf trip yet, but when it gets nasty, the boat will stay home and big sticks will come out!

Nice video for fishing the needlefish, which I love in the eastern LIS and RI beaches in shitty conditions.
