While fishing Saturday, I saw 2 young men throwing small pieces of bait. Fish they were catching they call pogie.
Tried researching on Google but kept on finding pics of bunker and porgy.
The fish was the shape of a cod and had a bonito type of pattern on its rear. The face and mouth was something like a shark or redfish.
Color was a silver grey, starting white along the bottom and ending black at the top. |

How big where the fish?
They were probably northern kingfish, lots of them being caught around the Milford area this year. |

They were the size of shad, bunker, and snappers.
Sunday, a man told me pogie are what they use as bait in MA and are what they call menhaden in FL, which would mean bunker in CT.
I told the man about bunker and the color and pattern and he knew what I meant but pogie is a different bait similar to bunker. |

Menhaden, Pogy, Bunker, Bugmouth, Fat-Back..... These are all regional names for Atlantic Menhaden.
The fish you are describing doesn't sound much like a Menhaden though...

I'll go with northern kingfish as well! Try googling that and see what you think. _________________ ...Randy...
