Went fishing out of Branford early this morning and caught a couple keeper stripers. I threw them back in because they were just over the legal limit. While I was fishing I seen 2 other boats pull a few keepers in each. One of them was 25 pounds...really nice fish!! It was nice to see everyone catching tho because its been really slow out there lately. I will definitely be getting on the water chasing down these bad boys now that I've seen them being pulled in all over the place.

If you're going to keep them, those are the best ones. Bigger fish have far higher levels of contaminates, flesh isn't as good, and the big females are the breeders.

Smaller fish always tate better!!!!! Especially bluefish!

Timjerome, where were you fishing? I go out of Branford a lot and haven't had much luck for a while. The only striper I have caught recently was live lining bunker in and area that was about 15 feet deep (which was surprising since it was so shallow). Since then haven't been able to find any bunker so have been using eels with no luck. Any tips?

I can't give out the few spots I have but I will tell you try the cow and calf. That was one place two weeks ago I did well. If you have a GPS you will find it. It's not far from the mermaids heading out of the channel. All I fish is Branford. The best tip I can give is look for rocks and fish all around them. That's how I found the few spots I like.

Sounds good, thanks for the tip. Is there any certain bait you have noticed to be more successful lately? I keep hearing eels and bunker but they don't seem to be working for me. Not sure if it's the locations or my bait.

I personally always use bunker. I've landed some nice stripers this year so far just throwing anchor and chunking. But I also have to say that I choose my spots by using the GPS and fishfinder. I try to find drop offs and crazy looking bottoms on my screen. So far so good this year since I upgraded me electronics.
