Launched from 4 mile boat launch at 4:30pm.A.couple of guys were leaving and mentioned that there were 2-3 foot rollers out there.I dropped my motor in and headed out.They were right! I was out in front of Rocky neck when my friend called to let me know he had arrived.It was almost low tide.Instead of going into Pattagansett bay to see if there were any stripers,i decided to be brave and head farther out to the rocks.

It was calm on the backside of them and i hoped i would find some stripers out there.I was there for about 10 minutes before my friend came motoring up.I had already caught 2 snappers on a bunker colored salt water super spook.They were about the same size as the spook.I don't know why they thought they could eat something that big but,they tried.

We decided to anchor behind the rocks to stay out of the rough water.I cut the bunker i brought into some small pieces.Threw some overboard as chum and we used some to fish with.At first we used smaller setups and caught a few small black fish and small porgies.I threw a bigger chunk on a big hook and only had 1 runoff.It resulted in a mangled piece of bait.Time went by and we decided to use up the bunker and chunked for larger fish.While we did that we tossed spooks towards the rocks and had a few larger swirls and caught a bunch of snappers.

As the tide came in the wind picked up and we could see dark clouds to the north.We picked up anchor,reeled in and headed into the bay to get out of the rough water and wind.Hopefully we would find some stripers with our spooks.When we got into the bay we saw tons of tiny minnows about 1-2 inches.

I pulled my motor and put my pedals in.We switched up to Jr spooks in rainbow trout color and started working the rocks,islands and small coves as the sun began to set.The wind wasn't bothering us there and the waves were less than 6 inches.We had a few swirls as we made our way to the RR bridge in the back.When we would shine lights in the water,we could see the small bait jumping everywhere.We saw a couple of those needle fish that i saw the night before at the Lieutenant river.(about 12 inches)i almost grabbed one with my hand but,it slipped out.We also saw a couple of teen sized schoolie stripers cruising the shallow water.They didn't want anything to do with our lure.

It was now around 10:30 PM the wind started picking up and it started to sprinkle.We decided to call it a night.once we came out of the bay the wind was really blowing and the waves were now 3-4 foot rollers with some white caps.I switched back to the motor and we stayed with each other as we slowly made our way back to the launch.I was impressed just as much as he was how well my hobie handled the rough water.I rocked quite a bit,had waves crashing over the bow but,it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be.That was the roughest water I've been in with it.Not to say i would make a habit of it but,it's good to know it can do it if the occasion arises again. No big fish,different/smaller bait and rough seas.

Still better than sitting around at home!

Nice report. After getting reports from 3-4 guys out yesterday, I'm taking my kids to the Hebron Fair. Still waiting for albies to show.
