Finally got out for the first time since July 4th. Original intention was to start drifting for fluke then chunk the night incoming. Well we all know how well laid plans end up - got a late start plus wind was about 50% stronger than predicted - that's fishing! Went to some rocky drop offs, marked a TON of small as well as decent sized fish, figure it's game on. Made 3 drifts with jigs & bucktails, not a single bump. Continuing to mark vast amounts of fish, we anchored and started chunking. Start getting light taps on mackerel chunks figure its birds. After three swings and misses, I let it go figuring I let the bird gut hook itself. Well, fish on reeling it in, fighting awfully hard for a bird, next thing, I look down and its a very nice black sea bass! With dinner in the boat, switch from chunking gear to blackfish rigs. Caught several more, mostly shorts but a few more keepers. My buddy still had bunker on, he ends up catching porgies. Caught some hubcap sized. Wind was howling, so we headed for the barn early, bumpy ride back with no moon light. Some real yahoos out there for the holiday weekend!
In the end, sea bass only wanted mackerel. Porgies were hitting bunker chunks. Sand sharks devoured the squid and small porgies on sand worms. This strange year keeps getting stranger.
tight lines!

Hub cap sized porgies? That's pretty nice!
Nice going despite the wind and rough seas. _________________ ...Randy...
