The day prior to going with my grandfather to the Housy.I decided to gather some fresh bait since there really hasn't been any in the area.
I did some fly-fishing at the Pequabuck river to gather some Fallfish for chunking.I caught well over 2 dozen but kept 19 for bait.
It was a beautiful pre-storm morning.
We headed down river to rockpile #7
Low tide was due in an hour so we tried to make the best of it.As soon as i let out the ole perriwinkle and closed the bail.WHAM!I thought i was snagged on the bottom as wire line peeled of the reel. After a tough battle i boated a nice blue.11.7 lber.
After 2 more passes by the rock pile we had a double header in which we both lost. They felt like BIGGIE'S as well. With no action after 6 more passes,we headed up river to chunk fish.As we anchored for a while we had no runoffs with the Fallfish.Other than a couple of small blue crabs that feel off at the side of the boat. The sky began to get dark and the wind picked up so we decided to call it and get off the water before the storm came in.
No sooner than we unloaded,in came a fierce rain and wind.I guess we'll save the Fallfish for another trip.Headed home by 10 am.
Here is a picture of the blue. _________________ ...Randy...

I never though about using fallfish to chunk with. Are they more for blues or do stripers eat them as well? |

Out of all the years i've fished there. This was only the second one from there.I've caught them near the mouth down in the flats but,up here by us it is a rare surprise. There are also the occasional sunnys. _________________ ...Randy...

THANKS!
Gator 32 inches 11.7 .
We (gramps and i ) also had a double header and lost the both of them boatside. They were at least the same size.It was the last hour of the outgoing tide when we had all the action. All between rock pile #7 and the condos. They all hit like a snag on the bottom. We were trolling with wire and the drag was as tight as it could go and they still managed to peel line off.I thought i was snagged at first.I let out line, closed the free spool and WHAM.FISH ON!
Isn't anything over 10 lbs considered a gator?
Slow troll about 7-10 cranks after hitting bottom.
We didn't see another boat out there all morning.
Just 2 surfcasters on short beach sand bar that left at slack tide.
They were chunking and throwing topwaters but, didn't see them have much luck. _________________ ...Randy...

10 to 20 pounds are gators. 10 pounds and over are speed demons. 20+ are gorillas. |
