I've recently relocated to the Woodbridge area. I'm originally from the Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia and spent my younger days pulling huge smallmouth from the Shenandoah River (I was 3 ounces away from a state record). Honestly, so far, I find the smallmouth a little weak in the area but the largemouth around here are decent. And the walleye and pike are obviously much better up here than down there. Makes me really interested in going on my first ice fishing trip.
anyhoo, looking forward to learning and sharing with you guys.

oooh, here's my first question... are there hellgrammites and madtoms in these parts? I've flip a few stones but haven't seen anything yet.

Welcome! I've got family in the Valley. Headed back down in a few weeks. Smallmouth fishing has been good in the upper Housie, and I'm probably headed up there tomorrow or Friday with my kids. Candlewood is supposed to be one of the best smallmouth lakes in the US (Bass Master), and headed north places like Champlain, George or Oneida regularly give up 5lbers. I'm mostly fishing saltwater right now.

Tight Lines,

Lucky Duck! The Shenandoah Valley is a great place to grow up and prime spot for fishing!

Yeah, I didn't realize until I left how good the fishing really was down there... But I'm having fun here just the same... Caught some nice LMB at Lake Chamberlain yesterday.

And yeah I've had luck with the pike around as well but I've just never been ice fishing and would love to learn the basics[/quote]
