Woke up early this morning so I figured I would get some fishing in. I haven't been down to Penfield in a long time with the last outing resulting in a skunk.
Low tide was scheduled for around 10am and I arrived at 8am. I was the only one out there besides a handful of guys all the way at the end of the reef dunking some chunks.
The action was pretty steady all the way up to the dead low tide. I caught well over a dozen sea robins and my first ever fluke! That first fluke turned into 5 fluke by the end of the day. All of them were shorts with the biggest one being right around keeper size but it got away as soon as I took out my tape measure. Everything was caught on an SP Minnow.
The other guys fishing were pulling in sea robins as well. I didn't see any topwater action or birds diving in the water for bait. I was seeing some small baitfish swimming around but I don't know what they were. No blues, snappers, or stripers were to be seen or had.
I hit the road around 11am with the tide coming back in. It was a beautiful morning to be out there and I was pretty excited to finally land a fluke even though it wasn't anything big.
Here's the first flat of the day to kick things off:

Congrats on your first fluke Jeff!
They're aggressive and fun to catch. They taste SO GOOD!!
Teeth are like needles, prickers, or spines.
Now you see that they will hit a minnow plug, which is why I get many on Rapalas. |
