I decided to take a half a day off from work and do a littte fishing. So I got a hold of bowhunter and we headed down to the canal on the CT river.
We fished from 7:15 until about 10:30. There were no other boats at the Salmon river boat launch and no other boats in the canal while we were there.
The water is also still a little on the muddy side which may have effected the bite a little bit.
We did manage to pull in 6 bass on everything from spinner baits, frogs, senkos , and super flukes but nothing of any great size. The biggest around 14 inches.
But bowhunter was able to get a 22 inch pike on a spiinner bait
I wish we had more time to fish, but still better than work |

Way to go bowhunter.Congratulations on the pike.
I love those times when there isn't anyone else out there. _________________ ...Randy...

I rarely ever fish waters with pike in them. With that being said, I had never caught a pike up until this year. The first one was by accident when I was striper fishing in the river which wasn't very big at all. So when DCAJ invited me to go on my first trip to the canal I knew my goal would be to catch a bigger one. I have heard of people doing well with spinner baits so from the beginning I tied on a steel leader with the biggest spinner bait I had. I casted into every nook and cranny all the way up the canal. I didn't get the monster I was hoping to hook into but its a start! I'm definitely excited to try my luck again. |

Nice pike man. Even the smaller guys can put up a good fight on light tackle. _________________ Got em!! |

Thanks! This fish honestly didn't put up that much of a fight until it got to the boat. Then it went nuts! It might have had something to do with the insanely high water temp. |
