Anyone know the best way to fertilize a garden with fish guts? Everyone I talk to said it does wonders for the soil, trying to figure out the best way to apply it.

Hi,
I fillet a lot of fish so I just dig a hole near my plants and bury heads, backbones, and guts
Especially tomato plants -> Love the calcium from the bones.
You could also make up a slurry, but that's messy and smelly.
Whichever way you decide -> Your garden will take off like crazy !

Do the bones break down, eventually?

Hi,
All fish breakdown completely within a week or 2.bones and all.
Sometimes I fish for suckers or stunted sunfish to plant whole in the garden.
Fish is the only fertilizer I use in my garden ... and it's totally organic !

Second SD's advice. I drop off racks at a friends house, who buries them in his chemical free garden. You should see the stuff he grows! He swears by fish fertilizer.

I've thought about doing this... lots of ponds around here loaded with small sunfish, I'm sure no one would miss a couple dozen!
