with this unit all i want to do is navigate, so what i see to install is a red and black wire ,obviously red to the hot fuse and black to ground now do i need to put in a toggle switch for that or run it direct? now there are many more smaller colored wire that do different thing but i don't think i'll be needing them.

I would run it direct, with a fuse of course. As long as the unit has an on/off switch, I see no use for a toggle switch. Which type of unit?

That's it. Right to the battery with a 1-2 amp fuse. Keep it low amp to protect the unit.
The other wires are if you are going to synch it with radar, etc. |

i believe it's a garmin 521.......i have a fuse box ,can i get the power from that and use the neg. bar for ground. the red wire has a fuse in it.

Yep you can do that as well. More than likely I am assuming its under the dash. Run the red wire to that which has the fuse, then ground the other wire (black) and you should be good.

ooppss....my bad it was a Garmin 421....probably some what the same.
now you mention not needing a toggle switch because the unit has an on /off switch but when the installed the fish finder they ran it to the acc. switch I'm assuming I could do the same with this gps also ....right?
secondly ...I know the unit has an inline 3a fuse but when I put it to the fuse box
what size (flat type) fuse do it use? |

Yeah you can run it to the ACC switch as well. My fuse box under my dash takes inline fuses, I'm not sure about yours I'm assuming its a blade fuse since you said flat. Stick to the same 3amp blade fuse if that's the case. You definitely don't want to go any more or less than what's recommended because it can blow the unit.

sorry for all the questions.....on the fuse part can I eliminate the inline round fuse and just go direct wire to the 3A blade fuse on the fuse box OR keep both
round and blade fuses with this setup? |

Direct wire to the blade fuse. No need for two fuses next to each other.
