What a great day on the Long Island Sound! The weather was beautiful, and the water is starting to clear up. I launched out of Niantic around 4:30 Saturday morning, with a plan to fish towards the west, a bit of a change for me. I had a flood tide on the Super Moon, which didn't seem to make much difference at all. After the last two weeks, things could only improve. I started at Bartlets, but it just wasn't firing early, and that's when I threw the plan overboard. I ran up the north side of Fishers, stopping by the Clumps and on to Wicopessette Pass. No birds, no bait. I ran out to Sugar and Watch Hill, figuring that might be turning on again. I've not had the success fishing the flood tide out there as I have the ebb over the last season or two. Heading a bit further east, the fluke fleet was in full force, and I saw numerous boats hooking up and bringing fish over the rails. Fluking is not my thing, so I went back inside Stonington to Jeff's spot that produced last week, and sure enough, landed a few small stripers. The tide began to ease, and before it quit, I wanted to take another look at Watch Hill. I could see birds working from the point to the red can as I approached, and was soon hooked into blues busting on the surface. I was fishing white Zoom Flukes on Kalin jig heads, and landed a number until the tide completely died. I would loved to stay as the ebb picked up, because I had the sense that Watch and Sugar were primed for some good fishing, but I had to start back. I hit into more blues at the east end of Fishers, hooking several in the upper 20"-30" range on the same baits. Flukers were all over the south side of Fishers, and again, were landing fish. Running out of time, I started back for Niantic. I got some good reports of bunker and stripers west of the CT River, still up in the Thames and Easter RI to the Cape has just been on fire. School is now finished, so I'm ready for some serious fishing trips!

Nice. I had an OK weekend from shore. Saturday morn I got out in the water at 3am and about 5 casts in on a fake dble. rigged eel I hooked a 26" bass. Didn't get anything else until about 4:45 but then hooked into about a 35" bass. Afew hours later as the sun was up now I hooked into a nice big blue about 32" on a pencil popper and that sucker did not want to come in for nothing! Even when I got it in and pulled the trebles out he still wouldn't release my popper from his jaws, I had yo stick my pliers in his mouth and open them to get my plug! A little while later I got a smaller blue before leaving. Yesterday I wasn't as lucky as I went out again in the morn and then again later in the aft. and took a skunking.

Glad that SOMEONE had a decent day!!! We surf casted a bit off the old lyme shores friday night. My buddy mike hit a 37in bass and his brother Joe hit a 31, or somewhere right around there. But as far as saturday went, I headed out with Mike, hit some blues at millstone for a short while to start off the morning, then switched over to fluke. We hit all our normal holes at Two Tree, Millstone, Niantic, Bartletts, Tried goin deeper, shallower, tried new holes I marked on the GPS. Nothin to show but a couple porgies, a couple sand sharks, and loads of way short sea bass. Think a few sea robins were thrown in the mix as well. As far as fluke, not one fluke. Not even a short. Though my pops did manage to hit a 20in out there. And it happened to be the only fluke I seen anyone land.

RNA - Why does it seem like when YOU'RE doin horrible, I'm out there killin it. Yet when you're out there catchin fish, I cant buy a bite? I dont like it... Laughing

On the brighter side, my girlfriend pulled two individually bagged chicken breasts out of the freezer for dinner tonight, and one bag wound up bein two jumbo sea bass fillets from my recent Cape trip. Score!!!

I ran by most of your spots and didn't see a thing either. All my action was east of Fisher's last Saturday. It's been so scattered. Going out tomorrow night and then both days on the weekend as my brother is coming up. I may fish one day further west, Hatchet's, Long Sand and towards Clinton. I don't really know those areas as well. Got a buddy who runs a 27' CC and wants me to show him more of the eastern fishing, and he's going to take me to some of his central and western honey holes. I still haven't hit any big schools of stripers busting on top. Hopefully in this next week.

Tight Lines!

Look for a little boat with a big net and a funny hat. Chances are its me. Usually in the area between Hatchetts and Bartletts on saturdays.
