My wife and I are hitting westhill on Sat. late afternoon early evening. Probably do some trollin for trout (her favorite to eat) and then maybe some smallie and LMB action to finish up the outing. I have fished the lake before, but it has been a long time. Hated all the rock bass, so shinners for LMB & SMB was difficult. Any tips, hot spots or recent catches to get the blood going? If ya see a red (for now, painting it camo soon) canoe with outriggers and a trollin motor, wave and say hi. Peace and have a wonderful weekend everyone. Loose lips and tight lines.

Two words: Drop Shot.

Look for the submerged island that's marked with buoys and the deeper hump that's next to it toward the boat launch ramp:

Now you've gotten me wanting to go. Laughing

Thanks PECo. Me and the wife never made it out. Is was sick all weekend. Not too happy and I was really excited to get out on the water. But, vacation is coming up soon so I am sure I will be out there one day during that. Thanks for the info. And the map. I do however have that DEEP book of all the lakes and ponds in Ct. and never knew about a submerged or under the surface Island. I may have to find this island. Thanks again. And Fish on!

I second that, I've never seen buoy's marking a submerged island. The only island I know about is on the south end of the pond and it's clearly visible out of water.

With that island you can see on the right.Go towards the left to open water.
It is a giant underwater rock pile.
When i was younger i went there with live crawfish and caught some nice smallmouths there.1 was 5.6 lbs.

Fish for trout, kokane.Catch your limit and switch over to bass. You can keep busy there,if you don't mind all the fishing pressure that can be there.

Hope to hit it either this Sunday or a day or two during vacation in July. I will have to find this rock pile as well. I am on the lookout for a smallie to mount. I had one, caught it at Westhill and threw it back because I just mounted a LMB and the wife was not having another fish so soon. But, I am due now and I will be hunting. I always catch something whenever I go to Westhill. I really love it there and it has a good verity of fish.

You can still get that SMB mounted without having the fish. As long as you have the measurements a fiberglass mount can be had. Good photo's help the painter match it to your catch.
