NWDarkcloud (aka Bob) and I wanted to go fishing on Wednesday, so I suggested Woodcreek Pond in Norfolk, which is in the northwest corner of Connecticut. I had been there only once before at first ice and wanted to check it out when the water is open. We took our time getting up there:

We launched The Other Woman, Too just before 9:00 am and motored around the pond on only the trolling motor. We enjoyed full sun and cool air temperatures all day, although the wind blew at up to seven or eight miles per hour from seemingly every direction at different points in time while we were on the water. The water temperature ranged from 67 degrees when we launched to 78 degrees in the afternoon up in the extreme shallows at the north end of the pond. "Shallows" is a relative term on the pond, because the only part of it that's more than four feet deep is about nine feet deep at the end of the boat launch ramp. The rest of the pond is really up to only four feet deep. Surprised

The water was clear down to the bottom everywhere that we looked. The bottom of the pond is almost completely covered with still dormant brown vegetation, although a lot of the one to two foot deep water is covered with those small red and green lily pads, and the three to four foot deep water has patches of the big green lily pads with yellow flowers. Strangely, we saw very few beds, probably 10 at most. Shocked

We wandered around the pond all day, mostly looking for deeper water near cover. Bob began catching largemouth bass with a wacky rigged Green Pumpkin/Red Flake five inch Senko almost immediately after he finally got one rigged up. Laughing

He boated the first fish at 9:15 am:

He caught three or four, including this 16 incher at 9:43 am, before I even caught my first:

Eight minutes later, I caught my first with a Bullfrog Zoom Horny Toad on a Number 4 Gamakatsu Offset Shank Worm EWG (i.e. Extra Wide Gap) hook:

We caught small largemouth bass and small chain pickerel all day. I was too tired from fishing the day before on the Sunbeam VI to take photos of all of them, but we caught a bunch. Although I caught a few of them with the frog, we caught most of them with wacky Senkos. The largemouth bass ranged from 6-1/2 to 16 inches long. The chain pickerel ranged from large hot dogs to small kielbasi. Eventually, I got kind of hungry, so I told Bob we'd leave after one of us caught a largemouth bass that was at least 17 inches long. It wasn't until 3:08 pm that I caught this 17 incher with a wacky Senko:

We decided to work our way back to the ramp, instead of motoring straight back to it. On the way there, Bob boated a few chain pickerel with a frog. At 4:04 pm, he caught this little 6-1/2 inch long largemouth bass with a wacky Senko:

Yeap, Bob was hungry, too. Laughing

We got off of the water at 4:30 pm and headed off in search of a restaurant. I'd love to fish Woodcreek Pond, again, but the next time I'll do it from a kayak, because it's so shallow and weedy. I think that it would be perfect for a kayak fishing get-together. Got that, Alan? Wink
