After trying to find information about this lake which is only 20 minutes from my apartment and couldn't really find any, I decided to check it out first hand. I found the area which is designated on a map as Fishing area #1 around 9:00 am. You'll find small openings on the shore every 20 feet or so for shore fishing. The sun was out, light breeze and the water was clear. From what I can tell, there's little vegetation in this area with a sandy bottom. I threw just about everything I had in my box (crank baits and senkos). I had no luck at all. The only aquatic life seen were a few infant sunfish and a large snapping turtle. I stayed for about an hour and a half. There's a lot of rules and I was unsure about where to fish. They also have a monitor that drives around so make sure you follow their rules.

If anyone has more information on this place I'd love to hear about it. Ill be checking out area #2 soon, which looks a little more promising. I drove by it and it had some branches sticking out the water so I'm thinking this cove might have some good structure. Hope this sparks someone's interest.

Wow, Manimal and I were also there this morning.... we got there around 5:15 and left around 8am. We were in fishing spot #1 according to your map. We fished the other side of the bridge, until a lake monitor told us we couldn't be on the rocks, it was private. So we went to the main lake side of bridge, it was windy and cold. I caught 2 fish.... a Crappie on the other side of bridge using a rapala perch colored ssr5 and a trout on the main lake side using a rapala ssr5 fire tiger. Tried everything in the box though, top water, spinner bait, inline spinner, rattle baits...not much. That spot looks like it has potential though, especially where the over hanging limbs are, that's the side manimal fished. I would definitely try it again when it's a bit warmer and not as windy.

They also have a website, shenipsit lake association or something like that, but when I tried to go there my computer told me it was a "bad" site with viruses or something like that. That cove at area #1 would be fun with some shiners I think.

I fish the snip all the time and have had pretty good luck lately. I usually fish off the rocky point at the opening to the cove. You can cover a lot of water there and theres a lot of rocky cover to find fish in. A week ago I caught a 2.5 pounder casting into the opening of the cove. I've also had good luck casting in the opposite direction from that same point. it's really rocky so you might get snagged a lot if you're not rigged well for it. There's also a spot farther down the road toward ellington that treats me well. it's down a hill through the woods and has a tree down in the water to the left of the opening.

Right now I'm on the waiting list to get a boat in the quarantine. I'm dying to get out on the water there. I just know there's some monsters hiding where shore fishermen can't reach them.

I can't believe we left 20 mins before you arrived! Chud did much better than I did - I got nada that morning.

Hadn't fished this place for about a decade, but found out my club has a membership canoe at the boat launch area - Ive gotta find some paddles!

Ill check this place out a few more times and explore more than just the bridge area next time for sure

I went again this morning. There's a lot of places to fish from shore. The monitor today was a nice dude, stopped to talk on his rounds and asked him some questions. There was tons of action on the water but nothing was biting my lures. I'm not going to give up on this place because I feel like it can produce some nice fish

I know 10 years ago, after traveling down the dirt road, there was an opening in the brush to reveal some pretty big boulders that I used to sit on and fish from/eat lunch on

Gotta search for those next time - looks like Sunday Ill check it out

From the looks of thing you can fish from most places as long as there's a clearing or path. The monitor was telling the places people fish from and they are not in the designated area on the map I posted. At the southern most area of the lake on the dirt road I saw a path that leads down to a few spots I saw one guy fish from this morning. If the record smallie came from here, there has to be others...

I was that guy fishing across the cove from you this morning. I got skunked too. There's definitely good fish in there. The deepest spot is around 70 feet so there's plenty of water for them to hide in. I'd pay good money for a day on a boat out there.

yeah, I saw them. I saw a good sized bass in the shallows near where I was standing but nothing was biting.

Manimal, I can definitely get some paddles. I can even do one better and get a trolling motor. I even have a depth finder we could rig up. If you're serious, PM me and we can set something up. I'm definitely down.

If you keep heading towards ellington from where I was parked there is a little parking spot on the lake side of the road. Head down the hill from there and there is a good opening to fish from. I've caught a few good keepers from there.
