I've never had a problem with standard Palomar even chucking a 5 ounce plug.

For strait braid i have never broke the knot on the palomar, i have only broke flouro once, and there is a good video out there about flouro and the palomar knot. The entire point is to not twist the knot and then there is no issue. Knotwars video's are great to look for the right knot for you.

Equal strength for the most part but there are pros and cons. Braid does not stretch which makes setting a hook much better and lure action especially top water IMO much much better but.............. it cuts really really easy if rubbed on a rock or touched to a sharp edge!!!

Perfect answer. Thanks.

I won a 150 yard roll of 10 pound Power Pro on Ebay for a total of $10.88. Diameter is equal to 2 pound mono.

What I'm considering is getting a Penn Fierce or Sargus 2000 and a 100 yard roll of 2 pound mono. First I'd spool the 100 yards of mono and then use the recommended knot to tie the braid to the mono so I can spool the reel with the 150 yards of braid.

Sound like a plan?

hi micheal
here's an aussie link you might want to check out.
i stumbled onto this guy while researching a shark fishing setup for the jersey surf
there's a lot of info on braids.this guy seems to do alot of indept testing!
the numbers wiil surprise you!!
i post this because you and a bunch of guys get your braid off ebay and he has a lot to say about fake power pro from china...sold on ebay!! Sad
i just bought 1500yd(brown) 65lb super8 slick and i ALMOST bought it off ebay to save bucks!!! just like you guys!

http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/

last year was my first using braid.pretty much tried them all.
it was a very expensive disaster Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad .
this year my only issue has been badly tied uniknots....fixed that by switching to a different knot.....and more wraps Wink Wink Wink Wink

for that shark setup.... it's a tica 12' extra-heavy surf pole,penn spinfisher ssv8500LL with 450yds of power pro super 8 slick,65lb test.
i went with the 65(and here's the shocker) because it had a higher break strength...that the slick 80lb Shocked Shocked
like i said it's some good reading!!some of his numbers will shock you!

oh!!! here's a older 2011 link that might help some

What were the issues you were having often with braid before getting better at it?

And I don't bother with wholesalers from China on Ebay.

for starters every 5-10 cast i was getting wicked wind knots.you'ld be surprised how quickly you can go through a 300yd spool!
the rapala lures(mostly under 1oz) were waaaaaay too light for the braids i was using.20-30lbs on 7ft medium action rods.the line was being respooled too loosely(no tension)
i was told the bottom(first) guide on my ugly sticks were too small causing the line to twist even more
i was also told by the owner of a certain bait shop that my cheap walmart reels weren't braid friendly.so i switched every one of then to a penn(seems to have helped)
this last part was me ...plain and simply... being an all knowing dumbass Embarassed Embarassed
i lost a bunch of lures because i refused to change from the uniknot i've been using for 40yrs plus.
instead of wetting the line and using a "DOUBLE UNIKNOT(or a PALOMAR) with at least 8 turns i kept using the dry, single knot with about 4-5 turns.
with a decent fish-on, the knots would slip badly... and if i got a wind knot BETWEEN the guides, the uniknot would break at the swivel from the impact
braid doesnt stretch much so it is very unforgiving
this braid stuff isn't rocket science..just common sense...which i CLEARLY did not use last year Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
i don't think i could ever go back to mono.just too many pluses with braid
i have 5 rods with braid,15-50lbs and so far this year no problems Smile Smile

When I ran into one of the usual surfcasting pluggers at Remington today, he and I traded cell and talked about meeting together Downtown someday so he can get me all set up with braid. He uses braid and has more at home that he's willing to help me spool and rig.
