I was fishing the CT river in Cromwell yesterday with out any luck but I got to thinking about some weird catches in the river.
About 6-7 years ago I was fishing a crank bait in the channel in Cromwell and hooked up to a legal size blue crab! One crab wasn't gonna make a meal so I let it go but it was definetly one of the oddest catches i've ever gotten.
If anyone else out there has anything weird to report either in the CT River or Thames/Housy post em up!

I was fishing off the DEEP dock and hooked a pretty large sea turtle! It didn't even hurt it, just snagged its shell and somehow it never slipped off while I pulled it in. I've caught a few blue crabs over the years and plenty of those nasty spider crabs.

i caught a 33" deformed striper.looked like something had taken a huge chuck out of its back when it was small or maaybe just born like that. also caught a terapin turtle, a couple seagulls, and a duck all in the housatonic. and the weird thing is i think they were all caught on an sp minnow i think?  |

Yeah, that post reminds me I had also caught a dam seagull and helped a few others remove theirs!

Well, mine's not too weird, but it was pretty big:
That's a five inch Sebile Magic Swimmer in its back.

| i would man up and grab the damn thing and get my lure back! why waste a perfectly good lure to a snake? besides they have medicine in case you get bit so i wouldnt worry about it lol |

Yeap, I caught the snake in the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant Canal. It was a northern water snake. I unhooked it and got my lure back. The snake never turned its head toward me. They're harmless.

Bob and I watched two snakes swim across the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant Canal, yesterday. One of the snakes was pretty small, maybe 18 inches long. Neither of them got attacked. What's up with that?!?!

Not in CT, but I snagged a good sized lobster once while jigging the cape cod canal...
Also landed the biggest snapping turtle I've ever seen using 6 lb test line, snagged him in the leg with a phoebe spoon while fishing for trout in a small local river. Took almost half an hour to land... safely unhooked, lure retrieved.... plus two more lures he had stuck to him!
