Fished the mid section of the river at 8pm till midnight. was usuing freshly caught shad chunks on 2-3oz of weight on 4/0 hooks
action was fine as we caught an 11 pound 30inch striper and released it for another day. caught a few catfish up to 7.5 pounds and I got into a monster bass that measured 41 inches and 25 pounds. (see Photo) after 20minutes in the water trying to revive this fish she did little more than lift her side fin up a few times. so unfortunately we decided to harvest the dying (dead) striper. the fish gave a great fight on my 7 foot medium action rod and gave me 3-4 good runs on my okuma 45 baitrunner with 25lb braid. great fight and really wished we coulda watched this one swim away.

Nice fish man i caught one around the same size last week on the shad too. How big are the chunks your using? I usuallly use 6/0 i figured it would be kind of hard using a smaller hook but maybe thats the ticket since you been doing good all season.

Are you catching your shad first with darts? Or do they sell the chunks

im catching my shad with darts earlier in the day. they cannot sell them as they are concidered a sportfish however you are allowed to catch them yourself and use them how you please as long as you are not netting them

The herring are moving back down. There should be some fat stripers in their wake.

I was just breaking balls haha. I've been thinking of going for shad in the morn and chunking at night. I'm a little sour after being out from 9-2am last night on my buddies boat. I threw everything I had, tons of bait in the water, no stripes. I only saw 2 big top water attacks though. We we launched at the Bissell and fished the bridge pilings for an hour (thats where all the bait was) nothing. Went to move south and the GPS/Sonar went haywire. I advised against going south because the water is low, and I'm not familiar with the river between the bissel and charter oak. AND we were on a 20' wellcraft that he just bought. This week is really going to have the bass on another good(or bad depending how u look at it) move. So I think Ill be targeting Rocky Hill (where i origionally wanted to launch last night) to the mouth from here on out.

@ iversonbaby- I've seen u around a handful of times I believe, u drive a red GLI with VT tags right?? PM me if u ever wanna fish, I have 2 good buddies with boats & I need to get my girlfriend to start coming out more, as yours does!" Nice fish for real man, you put the time in and got the results.
