After getting home from fishing with Genna, I relaxed for a bit and then decided to head back down to Remington to catch the turn of the tide. Low for Bridgeport was scheduled for 12:04pm and got to the sandbar around 12:45pm. Setup was the same one that landed me the 32" keeper.

Lures I played with were purpledescent Clackin Minnow CNM-9, blue sardine Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, mullet Saltwater Skitter Pop SSP-9, silver blue Skitter Pop SP-9, flake ayu Max Rap MXR-13, pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-10, original pearl shad FLR-10, and shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9.

While I was out there I saw a kayaker set the hook while throwing a bucktail. I was throwing a FLR-10 at the time and not getting anything so I decided to go deeper with the CNM-9. Pretty soon set the hook and landed my very first weakfish!!!!

Casted the CNM-9 back out there and set the hook again before the line snapped.

After cutting some line and testing knot strength, I switched over to the SXR-10. That caught me another 5 weakfish and lost 1. Had many hits too!

The bite eventually died and never got anymore hits on any of the Rapalas that dive deeper.

As I walked back to shore I was casting with one of the FLR-10 and had a hard hit and saw a small striper follow on 2 separate casts.

Threw the SSP-9 in the flats to see if any stripers were around and caught a chubby 24"er and had a tail swipe.

Hit the road around 4:30pm.

All weakfish were keeper sizes and kept my limit of 1. Smallest was 22" and biggest was 28". All gave a great fight on the 7' MH Daiwa Procyon Penn Sargus 4000 setup, which was the same setup I landed the 32" keeper on.

Nice! I've seen reports in OTW that they seem to have returned to CT/RI in decent numbers.

Long time anglers from Seaside Park and Remington told me today that this is the first time in over 10 years they've seen such a number in weakfish.

I found one in the Thames the other day, freshly chomped in half by a bluefish.

Wsnt the weather really nasty yesterday, I thought i was the only one fishing lol coz yesterday i went to penfield reef around 330 pm and stayed till the tide started rising but, It was miserable fishing with my jeans and clothes all getting soaked since i didnt have any rain coats nor waders. LOl

so decided to call it quit as the tide was rising and headed back to ny with the train trip being a mess.

That is one excellent day there Michael!!!

I still haven't caught one.

Congrats again.

John.

P.S. When you refer to "Remington" is that the old Remington gun/ammunition factory?

Michael, if you're not a subscriber, pick up an issue of New England Fisherman this week. Your day you documented here made it into this week's surf report.

Remington gun/ammunition is up by Success Lake and Broadbridge Ave. The Remington people fish at is the Remington Electric Shaver factory.

Almost every year a picture of me holding a largemouth pig or a report of me catching a number of fish while surf fishing always makes it into the headlines in some fishing magazine or newspaper report.
