I plan on doing some night fishing for stripers on the river soon ,putting the boat in in enfield area. I have never fished the river after dusk before, any areas I needs to be cautious about?
Also is the river high after all the rain? _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"
Can i be a fisher of fish too?

I fish solo at night all the time. Wife HATES it. Consult charts to familiarize yourself with the area you plan to fish, but realize that everything looks very different at night. Run everything slower! Even on a clear night it's easy to miss objects in the water, etc.
Wear a vest. I switch from my inflatable to a full Mustang commercial vest.

I carry a floating VHF radio and a xenon strobe attached to the shoulder, and a whistle and chem sticks as well. There's a good chance of losing contact with your boat if you go overboard in a current or your engine is engaged.
Rain didn't put a dent in the river. It's actually low. http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=box&gage=hfdc3
Night time is the right time for CT River stripers! Good luck! _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

Are stripers still hitting in the Enfield area? I'm new to the area and looking to fish them. |

this post was from last year, i have been out a couple times in enfield. have not got any stripers nor have i seen anyone else catching anything while i was out there. There is alot of baitfish in the river right now, thousands of alewives, herring, and shad. _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"

have you ever had any luck by the old enfield dam? If so what are you using, I've tried an array of lures there without ever having any luck, caught a few nice SMB, if the windsor locks canal but no luck with the river side. |

I was fishing the canal yesteray. I have not had a lot of success there yet. I normally go for bass there. 2-3lb bass is normally what i catch out of there. caught a 2 1\2 lb bass there with a white spinner bait yesterday.
I saw a guy there with a 10 or 11 ft surf rod casting a plug or something from there yesterday. I have told that people catch stripers from that area as well. I have yet to see it. _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"

thanks, I was fishing the canal yesterday no luck with senko's or a few crank baits I had. Haven't really tried with spinners before, I'll have to give them a try. |

Normally senkos work well there during summer months when thrown into shady areas and weeds, the water is still murky in spots thats why i chose the white spinner bait. Senkos were producing nothing. _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"
