Monday I decided to make 3 stops for bass fishing. First stop was the ice out pond just before 1pm. Water was low and stained. Wind started picking up just as I started casting.
Played topwater with a Rebel Pop R and caught 2 cookie cutters. Tried throwing a few shallow Rapalas but no luck. Caught 1 more with a 4" pumpkinseed Berkley Power Worm.
Decided to head to the funeral home around 2:30pm.
Saw bluegills very thick near the surface. Saw 4 bass nesting with a few lunkers bothering the smaller ones nesting.
Started off by playing with the bluegills and pumpkinseeds. The lures that had them most interested was a glass ghost X-Rap XR-4. Did my traditional light twitching retrieve and had tons chasing it. Landed an 8" pumpkinseed.
Decided to switch over to a 1" soft plastic crayfish rigged with a hot pink 1/8 ounce jighead so I could get into the bass. Landed 2 of the nesting bass and lost 1 of them. Had 1 of those lunkers chasing one of the bass I landed.
This bass was the biggest of the 2 landed.
Decided to head over to Twin Brooks around 4:30pm.
Worked many areas. Landed a 15" pickerel at the pond with the heron statue. Caught it while retrieving the Berkley steady on the surface. Caught 2 nesting bass at the main pond.
Didn't have any luck with topwaters and Rapalas in other areas.
Hit the road around 7:30pm |

A pond that starts becoming useful in March when other lakes and ponds in the area are closed due to them being stocked with trout and ice isn't too safe anymore on bigger lakes upstate. |

Try using a little 1/4 oz Spider jig with a baby rage tail craw!! Throw it on the beds and the bass will feed!! |
